The University of Westminster takes its data protection obligations very seriously. Access to any personal information you give us when participating in the student zone survey is subject to a staff confidentiality agreement.
Access to your personal information is limited by permissions to only those staff in the Student Survey team who need access to create and disseminate aggregate reports based on your survey feedback. No individuals will be recognisable in any aggregate data that is shared more widely with University and Student Union colleagues.
Your personal data and special category data
By taking part in the student zone survey, you will have the opportunity to give your personal views relating to the development of the proposed student zone. Additionally, at the end of the survey, there are several optional questions about you and your studies. This information helps us to work out if there are certain types of students that find some services more important than others and helps us to adapt our offering to student needs.
This optional information, some of which will relate to special category data, will only be gathered and used with your explicit consent. You will always have the option to take part in the survey but not answer these optional questions if you do not wish to.
Use of personal data and legal basis of processing
We will create aggregated and anonymous report for sharing with the Student Union and University colleagues for the purpose of informing how the student zone will be developed. No individual will be recognisable in this reporting.
The legal basis for the University to process your personal data in this way is your consent to participate in the survey.
If you wish to withdraw your consent from the processing of any sensitive personal data you may have initially decided to give us, please contact [email protected].
Your personal data given in your responses to the student zone survey will only be retained for the duration of the academic year 2020/21 and then securely deleted from all systems and storage.
Aggregate anonymous reports, where no individual is recognisable, are likely to be retained for a longer period for business and comparison purposes.
Data transfers and sharing
The University student survey team will not share your personal information with anyone else and as mentioned, will only share aggregate anonymous reports, where no individual can be recognised, with colleagues and the Students' Union.
If you have any questions relating to the use of your personal information in the Transformation in Students survey, please contact the student survey team at [email protected].
If you have any questions or concerns about your personal information and your information rights, please see the University’s data protection web pages or contact the Information Compliance Team at [email protected].
You can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office with any concerns or complaints you may have with the processing of your personal data.
