Subject areas

Foundation courses

Foundation courses offer students who are unable to apply directly to a degree programme the opportunity to study the subject of their choice and progress to a level where they can enter an undergraduate course – upon successful completion.

These courses are suitable for both mature students who may not have formal qualifications, and students of any age without the entry qualifications for our named degree programmes.

The Faculty of Science and Technology’s foundation years will provide you with an introduction to all major areas of your chosen discipline.

Foundation courses are available for the majority of our degree courses.

Applications for these should be made through UCAS, and advice about how to do this can be found on our How to apply webpage.

Short courses and continuing professional development

Looking to refresh your skills or learn something new?

We offer a range of short and professional development courses for biomedical, clinical and research scientists, and for clinicians, clinical governance facilitators, quality assurance staff, health and social care professionals and team leaders.

Tailored courses can be provided if you’re enquiring on behalf of an organisation. Take a look at our For business webpage.
