Personal data protection

Access to personal information

Data protection legislation, exists to ensure that individuals’ personal information is handled responsibly and securely by organisations. Its primary purpose is to protect people from the misuse, loss, or unauthorised access of their personal data by setting out clear principles for lawful processing. These laws require organisations to use data fairly, transparently, and only for specified purposes, while also ensuring accuracy, relevance, and security.

The legislation empowers individuals with rights over their data such as the right to access, correct, erase, or object to its use and holds organisations accountable for compliance.

Data protection legislation aims to build trust in how personal data is managed in an increasingly digital world, safeguarding privacy while enabling innovation and economic activity.

Personal data can be found in emails, correspondence, forms, systems and other records.
