Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Keyboard users who also use higher magnification will move through a hidden navigation menu rather than the “burger menu” which is present at higher magnification levels. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A) and 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).

The help and support section cannot be accessed by keyboard users. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).

The actions dropdown is not read out to screen readers correctly. It is identified as “Navigation menu sub menu”. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).

Any alert banner messages have close buttons which are identified as “times button”. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).

There is no skip to content on the platform. This fails WCAG 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (A).

At the end of every page, there are two invisible close elements which are included in the tab order but cannot be seen on screen. These do not do anything when activated. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA) and 4.1.1 Parsing (A).

Several pages across the site have problems with heading structure. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).

Page titles across the platform are not unique. This fails WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled (A).

Focus indication is lost across several individual elements across the platform. These are most often one element on a page. This fails WCAG 2.4.7 Focus Visible (AA).

Several elements across the platform do not have correct labels or are not identified for screen reader users. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A), 2.5.3 Label in Name (A), 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (A), and 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).

The buttons to adjust the calendar to day/week/month/agenda in the Tasks section of the platform cannot be controlled by keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.1.1 Keyboard (A).

Calendar information in the Tasks section of the platform is not clearly identified. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).

Task categorisation is through colour only when looking at the calendar. This fails WCAG 1.4.1 Use of Colour (A).

When uploading a document, the description field is pre validating on popup load meaning that the field is described as “invalid” to a user as soon as they move into it. This fails WCAG 3.3.1 Error Identification (A).

Some form elements across the platform contain a number of aria issues but should not significantly affect user experience. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).

The website was purchased from a third-party supplier and UoW do not have access to the entire codebase, to remediate all of the issues listed. We have some control over stylistic elements, such as the theme and naming of some controls, links and images. We will ascertain how much we can remediate internally, with our development team and we will then liaise with the supplier to get their roadmap to fix the issues. We will update this accessibility statement with any progress or commitments by the supplier at least every 3 months, until such a point that all issues have been resolved.

If you find an issue that we have yet to identify, please contact us using one of the routes described in the ‘Reporting accessibility problems with this website’ section of this statement.

Disproportionate burden

At this time, we have not made any disproportionate burden claims.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

3rd party content

Some of the platform includes 3rd party content which we have no control over such as documents which are uploaded by staff and students. The accessibility regulations do not require us to manage these kinds of content, but if you have a problem with any of the content hosted on this website, please contact us using the methods above and we will try to help.
