Course summary
Our International Hotel Management BA will equip you with the skills, knowledge and values to become a pioneering leader in the global hospitality industry. Studying in the heart of London, one of the world’s top hospitality hubs, you’ll use the city as your classroom while exploring the dynamic world of international hospitality.
The course combines academic study with hands-on experience, offering a unique blend of theory and practice. You’ll explore key areas of hospitality management, including sustainable operations in food, beverage and accommodation, as well as leadership across diverse cultures. Additionally, you’ll develop critical thinking, creativity and ethical decision-making skills, preparing you to tackle complex challenges in the hospitality industry.

These integrated placements will provide you with professional training and invaluable experience across various hotel departments, allowing you to apply your learning in real-world settings.
You’ll also work on live client briefs, developed in collaboration with industry partners, simulating real-world hospitality challenges. During your studies, you’ll gain the confidence to design and implement innovative solutions for hospitality businesses, always with a focus on sustainability, responsibility and empathy.
By the end of the course, you’ll graduate as a well-rounded hospitality professional, fully prepared for a wide range of roles in international hospitality.

Course structure
This course runs across three semesters—September, January and May—and extends through the summer, giving you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience during the hospitality industry's busiest season.
You’ll develop essential skills while balancing work and study, gaining practical experience in prestigious hotels. Your learning is enriched through lectures, workshops and field trips, with industry experts delivering masterclasses and guest lectures.

In Year 1, you’ll build a solid foundation in hospitality by mastering key concepts, frameworks and industry theories. You’ll also gain practical experience in sales and marketing, conferences and events and food and beverage, while developing an understanding of the hospitality consumer.

Credit Level 4
In Year 2, you’ll explore management and leadership principles while examining the importance of finance and the broader environmental context of hospitality. You’ll develop problem-solving skills to meet personal and group objectives, and gain practical experience in front office, room operations, and culinary departments.

Credit Level 5
Between Years 2 and 3 (Levels 5 and 6), you may choose to undertake either a professional placement year in the UK or an international experience year.
Professional Experience
You’ll have the option to take a placement year in industry. During the year, you will identify skills’ goals to work towards achieving whilst on placement; carry out research to develop an awareness of the hospitality sector they are working in, using a range of data sources; and familiarise themselves with techniques and processes, which help effectively deliver key initiatives and business objectives.
International Experience
Alternatively, you may choose to undertake an international experience year at one of our partner overseas institutions. You’ll study and reside in the country of a host institution during the year. The content of your study is agreed through a Learning Agreement between you, the home institution and Westminster Business School.
In Year 3, you’ll demonstrate your innovation and strategic management skills in hospitality while preparing for your Final Major Project, where you’ll conduct research and critically evaluate concepts to inform your judgments in complex situations.

Lecturer
Dr. Asma Begum is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader at the University of Westminster. With extensive teaching experience spanning the UK, UAE, and US higher education systems, she specialises in business management, economics and human resource management. Her innovative teaching approach focuses on student engagement and practical application of knowledge, ensuring students acquire real-world skills. Dr. Begum is passionate about fostering student development through technology and experiential learning, with a proven track record of curriculum design, quality assurance and staff mentorship.

Teaching and Assessment
Below you will find how learning time and assessment types are distributed on this course. How you'll be taught
Teaching methods across all our undergraduate courses focus on active student learning through lectures, seminars, workshops, problem-based and blended learning, and where appropriate practical application. Learning typically falls into three broad categories:
- Scheduled hours: examples include lectures, seminars, practical classes, workshops, supervised time in a studio
- Placement: placement hours normally include placement opportunities, but may also include live projects or virtual activity involving employers
- Independent study: non-scheduled time in which students are expected to study independently. This may include preparation for scheduled sessions, follow-up work, wider reading or practice, completion of assessment tasks, or revision
How you'll be assessed
Our undergraduate courses include a wide variety of assessments.
Assessments typically fall into three broad categories:
- Practical: examples include presentations, videos, podcasts, lab work, creating artefacts
- Written exams: end of semester exams
- Coursework: examples include essays, reports, in-class tests, portfolios, dissertation
