Quintin Hogg Trust (QHT) studentships – September 2026 entry

The University of Westminster is pleased to announce the next round of Quintin Hogg Trust (QHT) Doctoral Studentships, supporting outstanding doctoral research across all schools.

  • Number of awards: ten studentships available across the University (each school may submit up to two applications).
  • Application deadline: 6 February 2026.
  • Interviews: week commencing 9 March 2026
  • Eligibility: Shortlisted candidates must hold an offer of admission to a Westminster doctoral programme.

Assessment criteria

Applications will be considered against the following:

  • Expanding supervisory capacity by giving experience to new supervisors, including early career researchers (ECRs).
  • Alignment with one or more of the University’s research community themes.
  • Contribution to the development of interdisciplinarity.
  • Contribution to the University’s commitments to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) through the student, supervisory team, or proposed research.

Application process

Applications are submitted via the same online system as self-funded doctoral programmes.

Applicants must also clearly state “The Quintin Hogg Trust Studentship” in their application form, after which schools will review and shortlist applications for consideration by the University’s QHT Selection Panel.

If you have:

  • already applied
  • hold an offer on a self-funded basis, or
  • are applying for a second studentship

Funding and fees

The exact stipend amount for the Quintin Hogg Trust (QHT) Studentship for 2026–27 has not yet been finalised. The award generally aligns with the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) national minimum stipend, plus a London weighting.

  • To provide some context, for 2025–26 the London‑weighted UKRI stipend is £22,780 per year.
  • The 2026–27 stipend is expected to increase in line with future UKRI adjustments.
  • The studentship also includes a full home tuition fee waiver.
  • International students will be responsible for the difference between the Home fee waiver and the International fee (this difference was £11,994 in 2025–26).

Selection process

Shortlisted applications will be reviewed by the University’s QHT Selection Panel, which considers all nominations against the four criteria above before confirming the ten awards to be made. This is expected to happen around 3 April 2026.

Applicants not awarded a QHT Studentship will retain their self-funded offer with the University.
