Education verification requests

Discover how to verify your Westminster degree with third-party organisations such as employers. If you’re a third party, this page will explain how to verify a former student’s education.

How it works

You can use this service to verify the:

  • course studied
  • dates of study
  • award details
  • authenticity of award documents issued by the University

To request an academic or personal reference, you should:

To verify a short course completed at the University, email .

To verify a current student, contact us using the Student Centre live chat.

The verification process

The process of verifying education varies depending on the date of the award.

If the degree was awarded in or after June 2022, students and third parties can verify study using our verification portal.

Go to verification portal

If you’re the student

You can grant access to official, validated versions of your award documents to employers, universities and other third parties through our portal.

To do this, you’ll need to:

  • register on our portal
  • have the third party’s email address to hand
  • log into your account
  • click 'Connections' and then 'Add a connection'
  • follow the instructions to select which documents to share, with whom and for how long (we recommend one month or less)

The third party you’re sharing with will need to create their own account and pay a £10 connection fee.

Once you share the document, its status will show as ‘pending’. When they view the document, the status will change to ‘active’. You can withdraw access at any time.

Here’s a detailed guide to sharing documents with third parties:

If you’re the third party

Employers, universities and other organisations can:

  • register on our verification portal
  • request a connection with a former student
  • view verified documents once approved by the former student

Alternatively, former students can invite a third party to connect with them through the portal. You should keep in mind that:

  • you’ll only be able to view documents that the former student authorises
  • documents are valid only when viewed in the portal
  • you’ll need to pay a £10 connection fee

For degrees awarded in or before May 2022, requests should be submitted by the third party by emailing . The request should include the following details:

  • full name at time of study
  • student ID (if known)
  • date of birth
  • dates of study (eg September 1999 – July 2002)
  • award title

If you’re requesting that we authenticate original award documentation, please:

  • attach clear, legible PDF scans
  • ensure all four corners of each page are visible

Student consent for third-party requests

To comply with the UK Data Protection Act 2018, the email should include the student's consent, dated within the last three months of the request. It should include:

  • confirmation that you are the third party
  • a hand-written or verifiable electronic (marked with timestamp/IP address) signature
  • explicit authorisation of the release of educational information to the named third-party organisation

Please attach this as a separate document (forwarded emails or screenshots are not sufficient).

For degrees awarded in or before 1993

Due to the historic nature of these records, we cannot guarantee availability.

Verification could take longer as we may need to refer to digitised historic pass lists or retrieve records from off-site storage.

When you make your request, you should still include the information requested above, including the documents you want to verify – and if you're a third party, the student's consent.

Other verification services

You may need your documents electronically submitted to a qualification verification service such as World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), another institution or a professional body.

To do this, you'll need to provide the following information to us via the Student Centre live chat:

  • Your Student ID number
  • Any reference number related to your application
  • The institution name and contact email address

If you were awarded before June 2022, please also include a scan of your certificate (front and back) and your transcript.
