Due to the unfolding situation with regards Coronavirus (Covid-19), the University has made the difficult decision to postpone the Summer graduation ceremonies in 2020. Please see further information below.
Spring ceremony - cancelled
Due to the unfolding situation with regards Coronavirus (Covid-19), the University has made the difficult decision to cancel the Spring 2020 graduation ceremony. All students affected will be invited to a future graduation ceremony as soon as we are able to do so. Please note that students are not required to attend graduation in order to graduate.
Summer ceremonies – postponed
The University of Westminster has taken the very difficult decision to cancel our July 2020 graduation ceremonies. This is a celebratory event of huge importance to our community, and it is a decision we make with a heavy heart. However, we feel this is the right decision given the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The health and wellbeing of our students, staff and guests has to be paramount and we feel it is better to make this decision now and provide those affected with certainty, particularly given the travel and other arrangements that attendees would need to make.
We realise this will be disappointing to those of you who were looking forward to celebrating your achievements in the summer, however we intend to reschedule the ceremonies when it is safe and appropriate to do so. Those eligible will be notified once new dates have been arranged.
Please be assured that this postponement does not affect the time frame for the completion of your studies.
Currently, the November ceremonies are scheduled to take place. However, this will be kept under review in line with Government guidance with regards Coronavirus (Covid-19).
Invitations for the November 2020 ceremonies will be sent to your University email account by the middle of October 2020.
Our November 2020 ceremonies will take place on the following dates, with more details to follow:
- Monday 9 November
- Monday 23 November
The July and November ceremonies will take place at the Royal Festival Hall.
On our web pages, you'll find all the information you need to prepare for your graduation ceremony, and will also find details of when you will receive your award certificate.
If you're unable to find the answer to your question online or you need further guidance, feel free to contact us at [email protected].
Watch Graduation Live
Graduation is a special day and we recognise that not all of your friends and family can attend in person so our graduation ceremonies are professionally filmed and broadcast live. Our live broadcast is hosted by Visions Unlimited and can be accessed on the Visions Unlimited website.
If the University has to postpone or cancel the graduation ceremonies due to reasons beyond our control, the University cannot be held legally responsible or contractually liable for any actual or alleged loss to its graduands and their guests. This includes, but is not limited to, travel, accommodation and subsistence costs or any loss of business or earnings. Graduands and their guests should ensure they have adequate insurance protection to cover any losses they may incur because of postponement or cancellation of graduation. Further information can be found in section 15. “Unforeseen Disruption” of our Student Terms and Conditions (PDF).
If graduation is postponed or cancelled, the University will communicate this via the graduation webpage and by contacting students who are eligible to attend.
Your invitation and tickets
You will receive your Graduation Ceremony invitation by email in your University email account. Once you receive this email, you will be able to book your place and purchase any guest tickets you require.
Find out more about your tickets and how to complete the booking process on our How to book page.
Both of our venues are fully accessible with spaces available for wheelchair users.
If you or your guests require a space for a wheelchair or have other special requirements, please indicate this when booking your tickets, as wheelchair seating is limited. A member of the ceremonies team will then contact you if necessary.
We can provide you with a letter, which can be used in support of a visa application/extension for you or your guests. However, we cannot include your guests' names, as the university is not responsible for inviting them.
Please email your request to [email protected] no later than a month before the date of your ceremony.
The letter will confirm your eligibility to attend the ceremony and the date and time of the event. If you have reserved your tickets we will also include this information.
The letter will be emailed to you as a PDF document, a hard copy can be provided on request. Please note requests may take up to three working days to process.
