Postponement of Graduation Ceremonies July 2021

For those of you who will finish your degree with us this summer, we've had to take the difficult decision to postpone the July graduation ceremonies.

We've been working through the Government’s Covid-19 roadmap and what this means for holding large scale events. After carefully considering all the guidance and consulting with the Royal Festival Hall, we've come to the difficult decision to postpone the July 2021 Graduation Ceremonies. We hope to reschedule these in the summer of 2022 for students who were unable to graduate this year and last year.

While the Government’s roadmap is hopeful for a return to large-scale events in June, there is no guarantee that this will be possible. If the ceremonies were permitted to take place, it is highly likely that social distancing would be in place and that there would be restrictions on the type of event we could offer and the number of guests that could be invited. We want to make sure that you have the best graduation day possible and believe that postponing the ceremonies is the right thing to do.

We know this news will be disappointing and that the last year has been a difficult period for you all. We understand how important graduation is to you and your family and want nothing more than to celebrate with you at an in-person ceremony. However, these events involve thousands of people traveling to London from all over the UK and the world, so we need to take this decision now rather than wait to see how the situation progresses. A late cancellation of the ceremonies would have significant impact on those who had booked travel and accommodation.

Virtual Celebrations

We still want to celebrate your achievements this year, so we will be inviting you to join our Virtual Celebrations later in the summer.

We appreciate that a Virtual Celebration cannot replace your graduation ceremony but we hope that they will provide a memorable opportunity for you to celebrate and reflect on your time at Westminster.

The Student Lifecycle Team will be in contact later in the spring with further details of how you can get involved. The Virtual Celebrations will be open to all graduates who have completed this year.

These celebrations will not replace your graduation.

Your Certificate and Transcript

This postponement does not affect the timeframe for the completion of your studies. You'll receive further details of how you'll receive your certificate and transcript prior to the publication of results.
