This page sets out our key colleague, student and university-wide equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) policies, procedures and regulations.

Colleague

Colleagues can access all EDI policies and procedures on our colleague intranet and further advice can be provided via our Human Resources Advisory Team. Highlighted below are two key colleague policies and procedures:

Colleague Grievance policy and procedure

The University aims to provide a professional, open, equitable, respectful and multicultural place to work for its employees underpinned by its values. However, within any organisation employees will, from time to time, have concerns, problems or complaints regarding their work, working conditions or their working relationships. This policy and procedure outlines how the University can assist in resolving such issues.

Colleague Disciplinary Policy and Procedure

It is hoped that all employees conduct themselves to the standards required by the University and in line with our vision and values. The University’s 2020 People Strategy: Valuing our Colleague Experience and Culture Model sets out the expectations in terms of desired staff behaviours. However, if an employee's conduct or behaviour falls below the required standards, this policy and procedure explains how the University will deal with such situations.

Students

Students can access all EDI policies and procedures through the Guides and policies pages of our Student Hub and our University web pages. Details on some of our key student policies and procedures are listed here:

Student Disciplinary Regulations

The University is a community, and as members of the community students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is responsible and respectful to others, whether they be other students, colleagues, visitors to the University or members of the local community.

The Student Disciplinary Regulations shall apply to behaviour by students wherever and whenever it may have taken place when it is considered by the University to be detrimental to another member of the University, University property or the interests and reputation of the University itself.

Student Code of Conduct

The purpose of the University is to provide teaching, encourage learning and promote research. It also aims to support the recreational and social needs of its students. We are a community which embraces diversity and requires consideration, acceptance and courtesy in all behaviour. The University expects all colleagues and students to show respect for one another in all aspects of their contact.

The Student Code of Conduct sets out the University's expectations in relation to behaviour on site. All students must familiarise themselves with this code of conduct.

Student Complaints Procedure

Your experience at the University of Westminster is of paramount importance to us and we are committed to always providing a high-quality experience in all areas and activities. However, if you ever feel that the quality of academic or service delivery falls short of what may reasonably be expected, the Student Complaints Procedure details how best to raise and resolve issues.

University-wide

Our university-wide EDI policies and procedures are accessible on our University web pages. Details on some of our joint key policies are listed here:

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy explains our commitments, to enable a supportive and safe learning and working environment which is equitable, diverse and inclusive, is based on mutual respect and trust, and in which harassment and discrimination are neither tolerated nor acceptable.

Diversity and Dignity at Work and Study Policy

The Diversity and Dignity at Work and Study policy has been designed to protect the wellbeing of all members of the University. This document sets out the University’s position on bullying and harassment (including victimisation) and provides a framework for students and colleagues to bring complaints about such behaviours.

Transgender Equality Code of Conduct

The purpose of this document is to raise awareness of this aspect of gender equality to ensure that trans colleagues and students do not experience discrimination, harassment or victimisation. This code of practice should be read as part of the wider set of policies including the Diversity and Dignity at Work and Study policy.

Gender Equality Plan

Our plans for gender equality are embedded within a range of initiatives, reports and action plans that support the implementation of our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Policy and Strategy.
We align with the Horizon Europe Gender Equality Plan (GEP) mandatory requirements.

Equality, diversity and inclusion reports

You can find other documents, including EDI annual reports and Gender Pay Gap reports, on our Annual reporting page.
