Breast Cancer Research

Help us revolutionise breast cancer prevention and treatment

Despite major advances in treatment in recent years, breast cancer remains one of the most common types of cancer in the UK, with 45,000 new cases diagnosed each year. One of the biggest challenges in successfully treating cancer is preventing it from spreading to secondary organs, a process known as metastasis.

Our researchers have been undertaking pioneering research into the detection, treatment and prevention of breast and secondary cancers.

The team has been instrumental in identifying proteins that are changed and increased in aggressive breast cancer and a blood test is being developed for detecting the secondary spread of cancers. Our laboratory recently ran the largest study* to date in the UK of the diet and lifestyle of breast cancer patients and how this affects progression of the disease.

We now need your support to enable our researchers to expand their work in three key areas:

  • Diet and lifestyle
  • Environmental risks
  • Personalised treatment

Support our valuable work

With additional funding our researchers could make huge advances in the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. With your help those advances could soon become a reality.

What your donation could buy
£15 buys a set of “primers” to study in close detail the genes that are present in breast cancer cells
£60 buys 100 disposable pipettes needed for experiments to study cancer cell drug interactions
£350 provides a set of “reagents” for the study of proteins in cancer cells and the sugars attached to them
£1000 funds the collection of blood samples from 20 healthy women to compare with samples already collected from breast cancer patients
£3500 allows us to buy an incubator to keep cancer tissue samples alive while tests are on-going
£7500 enables us to begin the development of a new test to detect how cancer tissue samples interact with drugs

A gift towards our work will support pioneering breast cancer research that has the power to improve detection, increase survival rates and save lives.
