School of Organisations, Economy and Society
Our School brings together a community of around 60 academic staff with a shared interest in teaching and research focused on the development, operation, management and leadership of responsible and sustainable organisations in an international context. Our School hosts one of the most internationally diverse teaching bodies with staff with from Chile, China, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Thailand and Switzerland. The School draws on subject expertise in a wide range of areas: human resource management, organisations, leadership, economics, international development, international business and social and commercial enterprise development.
We offer a portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and our mission is to transform the prospects and lives of our students, by equipping them with the knowledge, skills and mind-set required to succeed in management in a wide range of organisations. In the area of organisations, management and leadership we offer Human Resource Management BA (Hons), International Human Resource Management MA as well as the post-experience, part-time Human Resource Management MA and the Executive MBA. We host a range of specialist courses in Economics – Business Economics BSc (Hons), International Economic Policy and Analysis MSc and International Development Management MSc. We also host the Business Management with Economics BA (Hons) pathway degree. We have two popular programmes in International Business including our International Business BA (Hons) and also the International Business and Management MA/MSc. In entrepreneurship, we offer Business Management with Entrepreneurship BA (Hons) in and an exciting new MSc in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Enterprise Development.
Consistent with the University’s dedication to applied and professional education, we enjoy very close relationships with the professions and relevant public bodies and employers. We are a Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) approved Centre. Our MBA is accredited by the Association for MBAs (AMBA). In economics, we work closely with organisations such as the Government Economic Service (GES) and the Society of Professional Economists (SPE).
Our School is very active in applied research, with interests in areas such as economics, emerging markets, performance and reward management, employee relations, change management and entrepreneurship. We host the internationally acclaimed Centre for Employment Research, which contributes to the development of public policy through research funded by the UK government, the European Union, professional bodies, the UK funding councils and also commercial companies. Key policy contributions have been made in areas such as skills, labour markets and programme evaluation, employment relations and equality and diversity. We also host the Centre for the Study of the Production of the Built Environment (ProBE) – a specialist research group exploring labour issues in the construction industry.
