This faculty community is truly international, with staff from Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia and India to South Africa, Nigeria, The Gambia, Greece, Lithuania, UK and USA.
The School’s programmes include one of the University’s longest-established courses: the Business Management BA (Hons), a broad-based undergraduate degree which prepares students for a wide range of career options in management. The School’s Management MA is similarly popular, aimed at graduates from any discipline wishing to convert to a management career.
This School is ranked in the top 50 UK universities for marketing education (CUG, 2019). Our portfolio of marketing degrees includes three specialist BA (Hons) courses: International Marketing, Marketing Communications, and Marketing Management, and two MA/MSc courses in Marketing Communications and Marketing Management. The marketing courses are distinguished by their practical focus and the close relationships they enjoy with employers and the marketing professions. Many commercial companies and marketing agencies provide guest speakers, case studies, internships and applied assignments to help develop students’ technical marketing skills, reflecting the School’s strong links at the heart of the UK marketing profession. Our marketing programmes are recognised and accredited by the most prestigious professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing, the Digital Marketing Institute and the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing.
Many of our faculty are actively engaged in applied research. The main themes centre on management, strategy and marketing. Within these broad themes, our research extends to a wide range of topics including advertising, branding, business policy, consumer behaviour, creativity, gender in marketing, design, innovation, international marketing, loyalty, digital marketing, sales management, social enterprise, sustainability, tourism marketing and trust. The Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and Strategy (IDEaS) research group is particularly active in research on business strategy and growth and the management of creativity and innovation in organisations.
The School is also home to executive training in management and digital marketing. In collaboration with the Digital Marketing Institute, we train many managers in the practice and skills required for the digital transformation of their business and the application of web, social media and analytics as key tools for marketing strategy. The School also hosts the successful executive course in Management and Leadership Development.
