School of Finance and Accounting

Our School brings together an international community of 40 academic staff and 15 visiting practitioners and trainers, delivering teaching, applied research and executive training. Our mission is to transform the prospects and lives of our students through equipping them with the knowledge, skills and mind-set required to excel in professional careers in accounting, financial risk management and financial services. The School has an exceptional record in student satisfaction in the UK National Student Survey, and is ranked 39th among UK universities in the Guardian League Tables published for 2019.

The School offers a range of successful undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. At undergraduate level we offer Finance BSc (Hons), Accounting BSc (Hons) as well as Business Management with Accounting BA (Hons) and Business Management with Finance BA (Hons). At Masters level, we offer Finance and Accounting MSc, Investment and Risk Finance MSc and Finance with pathways in International Finance and Banking MSc. The School also hosts a new unit which specialises in exploring business and financial analytics and new opportunities in FinTech. Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are practical and applied, and enriched by superb facilities. These include the Financial Markets Suite which uses the Bloomberg computer system to monitor real-time financial market movements and trends. It is a resource only available to a small number of UK Business Schools.

All of our programmes have been designed with the needs of employers and the major professions in mind, and we enjoy close working relationships with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investments (CISI) and the CFA Institute. We are an ACCA Gold Approved Learning Partner, and our Accounting BSc (Hons) and our Finance and Accounting MSc courses provide exemptions from up to nine papers of the ACCA exams. We also provide exam preparation short courses for managers wishing to take ACCA exams.

Our School is active in applied research and we contribute to improving practice in the accounting and finance professions, financial institutions and companies, as well as informing public policy. We have particular expertise in corporate finance, investments, financial analytics, pensions, international financial markets and institutions, fixed income markets, financial econometrics, FinTech, accounting, comparative international accounting, social and environmental accounting, accounting in less developed countries, business law and governance. A number of our academic staff lend their expertise to companies and financial institutions through consultancy and other advisory services.
