The Cavendish Living Lab is a collaborative initiative at the University of Westminster that transforms the campus into a real-world testbed for sustainable innovation, learning, and research. Bringing together students, academics, professional services staff, and external partners, the Living Lab develops practical solutions to sustainability challenges, including food waste, plastic waste, water management, and resource efficiency.
Through interdisciplinary projects, students gain hands-on experience in applied research, problem-solving, and community engagement, working to co-create sustainable solutions with local stakeholders. The initiative also collaborates with local councils and community organisations, delivering workshops, outreach activities, and knowledge-sharing events that promote sustainability awareness and education.
The Living Lab provides valuable opportunities for students to develop skills in research, project management, innovation, collaboration, and environmental leadership, while contributing to positive social and environmental impact.
The initiative is co-led by Dr Pooja Basnett and team who work closely with students and partners to advance sustainability across the University and the wider community.
