Marylebone computer rooms

At our Marylebone Campus, we have a number of computer rooms. 

• Basement computer rooms: B2, B3 (Mac suite), B4, B6, B7, B8, B9, B10, B16, B21
• Marylebone Library: First floor
• Chiltern Building: Bloomberg suite: only accessible to designated students via ID card
• Marylebone Building: computer room M524 and fourth & fifth-floor studios have CAD PCs. Sixth-floor room M601 is for WBS postgraduate students only.

During normal operations computer rooms B3 to B10 are open 8am – 11pm. B16 and B21 are open 9am – 9pm.

All computer labs are PC based except for B2 and B3, which are Macintosh rooms.

Available software

Computer rooms on your campus offer a variety of popular software packages, as well as specialist software for the subjects taught there.

AppsAnywhere

All PC lab machines run Windows 10 as standard and, in addition, most University applications are made available via the AppsAnywhere portal.

The AppsAnywhere portal will launch when you log in to a PC in one of our learning spaces - you'll just need to:

1. Log in with your normal University credentials and a list of applications will be displayed.
2. Hover over the application you want, click 'launch' and this will start the Cloudpaging Player.
3. In the Cloudpaging Player, select the application and click 'launch'.

Specialist software

The following specialist software is also available in some computer rooms:

• SAP GUI is used to discover and communicate meaningful patterns of data. It is available in rooms B4 and B10.
• AutoCAD is available in rooms B21 and M524.
• Bloomberg software is available in the Bloomberg Suite.

Assistive technology and equipment

Networked software

All networked PCs at the University have the software listed below.

• JAWS v.13 – Developed for blind and partially sighted people, JAWS reads aloud what is on the computer screen. For user guides visit the Jaws website.
• Mind View v.6 – ‘Mind mapping’ software and can help you organise your thoughts and plan your assignments. This can be useful to all students, but particularly to those with dyslexia.
• TextHelp Read and Write 10 – Offers reading and writing support, including text to speech, phonetic spell checker and word prediction, as well as the ability to change the colour/contrast of the screen.
• Windows Narrator – A lightweight screen reader.
• Microsoft Magnifier – An onscreen magnifier.
• Sensus Access – Allows you to convert file formats (eg a Word document to an audio file) and is available via the Learning Resources tab in Blackboard.

Software on dedicated computers

Password-protected dedicated PCs are available at Marylebone on the 1st floor in the study space. They have the following software:

• Zoomtext v.9.1 – A screen magnifier designed for people with visual impairments. You can magnify a whole screen or move a magnifying ‘square’ around the screen. Find out more about this on the Zoomtext website.
• Abbyy Fine Reader v.10 – Abbyy Fine Reader is OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software. Use it to create editable and searchable electronic files from scanned paper documents, PDFs and digital photographs. You can find out more on the Abbyy Fine Reader website.

Equipment

Each library provides access to height-adjustable tables. 

The library cannot guarantee specific study space for students with disabilities outside the assistive technology machines that are provided in each library. Please refer to your disability adviser with any issues around your use of the library study space.
