Access to justice is a continuing issue. How can we ensure that our needs are met and our disputes resolved in a fair manner through accessible and transparent procedures? Access to dispute resolution is part of this inquiry. One of the paths to redress is alternative dispute resolution (ADR), which this stream looks at more closely. With a focus on current developments in the consumer ADR landscape, this stream is interested in the challenges that policymakers and practitioners in the field of ADR and ombuds are facing.

Currently there are three main areas of interest:

  • The impact and legitimacy of ombudsman and ADR schemes: how should their effectiveness be assessed and how can their continued legitimacy be guaranteed?
  • What role do online-activists play in campaigning against ombuds?
  • How can vulnerable consumers access justice and how can systems be more effective to reach out to all?
