Management MA

This course has provided me with the opportunity to enhance my skill set as a manager.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

As an alumnus of the University of Westminster, I chose to pursue another professional degree here as I was assured that the university could provide me with international exposure.

How has your experience been studying in London?

London has been my home for many years. Even though I studied during the pandemic, I felt that it was the best decision to use my time to focus on improving my career and I had a seamless experience connecting with my peers and professors throughout my course. I also got to travel to many places near London and enjoyed the welcoming multi-cultural aspect. I would highly recommend exploring London as much as you can along with balancing your course.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I learned and enjoyed each and every module of the Management MA. I realised that every module shaped my business acumen as a leader or a manager. For instance, the Managers and Organisations module prepared me to understand the psychological aspects of people in different organisational set-ups. On the other hand, the Strategic Management module inculcated an understanding of various strategies to operate complex businesses.

I also studied Economics and Financial Analysis, which provided a comprehensive and practical approach to the financial or economical aspects of global businesses, and Marketing which helped me to understand the competitive positioning of different businesses. Overall, I learnt about management/planning and control systems, and operational processes within different organisations.

During this course, there were many opportunities to enhance my skills as a manager. For example, I was able to work on various presentations and projects, both individually as well as part of a team.

I have now got a permanent role as a DAS Case officer at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (London, UK). I feel extremely fortunate to have studied this course to enhance my academic as well as professional journey.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

I found the entire department to be very experienced and knowledgeable in their respective subject areas.  I particularly enjoyed the supervision of my dissertation supervisor, Dr Thoralf Dassler, who guided me throughout my dissertation. He provided insights for both conceptual as well as overall completion of my project and I am delighted to share those learnings that will help me during my career too.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service

Along with the Careers and Employability Service, there is also an online service which students can access for various job opportunities during the course or even after graduation.

Additionally, there is a student service for assessing or building your CV which I have used frequently and found very helpful. I feel extremely fortunate to have chosen this course and enhance my academic as well as professional journey.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

I was the Class Representative of my course which I used to bridge the gap between professors and students, by presenting student queries and seeking solutions.  This helped me to connect with my fellow students in a better way, and contributed to shaping me as a better leader.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

I recommend studying at Westminster because it provides international exposure and prepares you for employability in various sectors.

The best aspect of being a University of Westminster student is getting international exposure and having the opportunity to explore the UK.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
