The Genomics and Infectious Diseases research group was founded in September 2022 and is based in the Research Centre for Optimal Health, within the University of Westminster’s School of Life Sciences.

The main aim of the proposed research group, in line with the research objectives of the Research Centre for Optimal Health, is to improve the health and wellbeing of the population and utilise host and pathogen genetic and genomic data to gain a better understanding of the pathobiology of infectious diseases. We aim to identify potential targets for the treatment of globally-relevant infections and contribute to prepare society to tackle future pandemics.

The research group supports and mentors members, develops collaborative projects and applies for joint research funding, hence promoting knowledge exchange.

The research undertaken in the group promotes diversity and inclusion and is broad in scope, tackling the host and the pathogen responses to viruses, bacteria, and eukaryotic parasites. The group includes members of staff at different levels of seniority, as well as affiliated members and PhD candidates, working in a relevant subject area.
