Westminster hosted a visit by representatives from one of the University’s study abroad partners, the  Universidad Panamericana (UP) in, Mexico, to discuss opportunities for closer collaboration.

During the visit, Westminster colleagues welcomed the President of the University Fernando Llergo, Mexico City Campus Chancellor Santiago Garcia, Executive Director of International Affairs Gabriele Valdivieso, and Institutional Rankings Coordinator Carlos Mateos. The group discussed several areas  including the possibility of Westminster staff travelling to UP to teach during the summer; short term mobility opportunities for students in both institutions; and Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) opportunities. After the success of the visit, it is hoped that a number of these new opportunities will be developed going forward.

UP was established in 1967 and is a private Roman Catholic University with a focus on research. The principal campus is located in the centre of Mexico City with others in Guadalajara, Aguascalientes and Santa Fe. UP is currently ranked fourth best university in Mexico and second best private university in Mexico.

The visitors met Professor Dibyesh Anand, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement and Employability; Stephen Wallis, Director of Transnational Education; Dr Walaa Bakry, Director of Executive Education in the Westminster Business School; and Richard Hull, Education Abroad Officer.

About the visit Professor Anand said: “It was a pleasure to welcome colleagues from UP to the University and learn more about the excellent work they are doing to support internationalisation opportunities at their institution and how we might work together.”

Stephen Wallis added: “We look forward to working with UP to increase the number and range of mobility opportunities for student and staff from both our institutions. We already welcome a number of UP students annually as study abroad students and look forward to seeing this number grow.”
