Course summary

During this risk management course we will present a comprehensive approach to managing risks within an organisation.

The Management of Risk (M_o_R®) certification considers risk from different perspectives:

  • strategic risk
  • programme risk
  • project risk
  • operational risk

There are two levels, each examined separately: the Foundation level and Practitioner level, which you can take sequentially or at separate times. The Practitioner is the second of two levels available, the first being the Foundation.

The two-day Practitioner course will conclude with a 2.5 hour multiple-choice exam (open book), which leads to the official Registered M_o_R® Practitioner certificate.

Who is this course for?

The course is aimed at anyone working in a corporate governance environment who has responsibilities for identifying, assessing, planning, or managing risks, or reporting on risk management activities across the organisation.

You can only sit the Practitioner exam once you have passed the Foundation exam.

Course structure

The course consists of a series of classroom lectures and group exercises. The lectures introduce the method’s terminology, then we will discuss case studies to explain how to use the method in practice. We will provide supplementary learning material via the University’s online learning platform. At the end of each day we will use multiple choice questions to remind us of the day’s learning and to prepare us for the certificate exam.

The Practitioner course follows on from the Foundation course, where we introduce the method, its philosophy and terminology.

It focuses on the more intricate aspects of the method, putting it into practice through applying a series of challenging questions to a case study. The formal test follows exactly the same approach.

The purpose of the Practitioner level is to confirm that you have achieved sufficient understanding to apply and adapt M_o_R® in a real-world scenario.

The exam has the following format:

  • objective testing
  • four questions per paper, 20 marks available per question
  • 50% (40 marks out of 80) required to pass
  • 3 hours' duration

Learning outcomes

At the end of the Practitioner course, you will be able to apply and understand how to tailor M_o_R effectively in an organisation supporting M_o_R.

Specifically, for any organisational perspective, you will:

  • understand the relationships between the four elements of the M_o_R framework
  • be able to apply the principles, approach, processes and techniques
  • be able to review and make recommendations to embed the M_o_R framework
  • be able to create and assess any of the M_o_R framework documents

AMPG will issue you with an e-certificate on successful completion of the exams.
