Leadership for Sustainability

Overview

Course summary

This course is focused on developing an appreciation of leadership through a sustainability lens and the importance of innovation and change within a dynamic organisation. Learners will also explore the behaviours and practice required to lead and manage in new ways.

The course team will host a networking reception on the Monday evening and there will be a site visit on the Wednesday afternoon to learn from an organisation who demonstrate excellence in driving the sustainability agenda.

Examples of site visits are:

  • Wimbledon Tour and Museum
  • House of Commons
  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Tour
  • 8 Bishopsgate Skyscraper

Who is the course aimed at?

This course is designed to develop existing and aspiring senior managers and leaders who appreciate they need to invest in their own personal and professional development to progress their career.

Tutor information 

Professor Susan Laing - Professor Emeritus, University of Westminster Business School

Susan holds an international portfolio of consultancy and currently has projects in Finland, Malta, Switzerland and Urbekistan. Susan recently completed a year at University of Westminster as the Interim Head of School for Management and Marketing. Prior to this Susan was Dean of Teesside University Business School where she successfully relaunched the School, and grew the portfolio and academic team over a four year period. Susan spent more than twenty-five years at Edinburgh Napier University where she created a track record of leading innovative learning and delivery of flexible courses for working learners.

Dr Barbara McCrory

Barbara has over 30 years in the field of business. She holds a Doctorate in Business, an MBA in Retailing, and a Degree in Marketing. Additionally, she has completed courses in mentoring and coaching. Barbara began her career with Tesco, working her way up to Trading Director with final responsibility for over £400 million in sales. She led a team of over 30 people. Her career expanded into other areas, such as General Manager, Commercial and Marketing Director, for a number of different companies and across various industries. Her extensive experience supports a comprehensive understanding of leadership, management, business development, procurement, and exporting across both large and small companies and diverse industries. Barbara is also a business consultant and has collaborated with some of the biggest brand names, including Mars, Masterfoods, Unilever, Dolmio, Heineken, Hellmans, Flora, Nivea, Walkers, and Johnson Brothers.

Accreditation

On successful completion of this course participants will be awarded an ILM Leadership and Management Level 7 Award in Evolving approaches in leadership and management. With a further 121 coaching session (online) and successful completion of appropriate assessment, learners can be awarded an ILM Leadership and Management Level 7 Certificate in Evolving approaches in leadership and management.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Illustrate an awareness of the relationship between business and society and how to positively enhance that relationship
