Subject Coordinator | Pearson Qualifications PLC

Finance with Management BSc (Hons) - 2015

I found the emphasis placed on English Language to be the most valuable factor on my course. Reason being, this helped me from job applications to actually securing a role.

What are you doing now?

I am currently working as a Vocational Qualification (VQ) Subject Coordinator at Pearson Qualifications PLC. The purpose of my role is to coordinate assessment decisions and articulate assessment concepts in a timely and effective manner.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster? How did the skills you learnt during your degree help you to shape your career?

I found the emphasis placed on English Language to be the most valuable factor on my course. Reason being, this helped me from job applications to actually securing a role.

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

I would recommend the University of Westminster because it has experienced academics, offers competitive scholarships, temporary job opportunities, access to free published resources, discounted Masters programmes and many more great benefits.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

As London is a tourist attraction, it meant that I was able to meet and work with students from around the world.

What extra-curricular activities did you participate in that enhanced your time at the University?

Extra-curricular activities that I participated in during my time at the university included the 'University of Westminster Teaching Assistant Scheme', various open day events, the Friends of Arriving New Students scheme (FANS), revision classes and much more.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing a similar career?

The advice I would give to someone thinking of pursuing a similar career is to find something you enjoy in every module that you study (namely the core modules). Furthermore, if you are a new starter at university, I would advise that you borrow (from the university library) or purchase textbooks in relation to report/essay writing and presenting. The reason being is that, no matter what your subject area, there is a positive correlation between high marks and content delivery.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us?

If you get the opportunity to choose 'English for Academic Purposes', opt for it! This module has changed my life. Ever since then, I have developed a passion for English Language.
