Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose the University of Westminster because the Applied Artificial Intelligence course really stood out to me. It felt like a modern and interesting course that focuses on an area which is growing very quickly and becoming more important in everyday life. I liked that it was something quite current and forward thinking, and it felt like a good opportunity to study a subject that is both unique and relevant to the future. I also felt that Westminster would give me the chance to build practical knowledge and develop skills in a field that I’m genuinely interested in.
How has your experience been studying in London?
Studying in London has been a very exciting and valuable experience. London is a diverse and fast paced city, and it offers a lot of opportunities for personal growth, networking and professional development. Being in such a global city has allowed me to meet people from many different backgrounds and learn from different perspectives. It has also been motivating to study in a place where technology, business and innovation are constantly evolving.
Tell us about your course (what have you particularly enjoyed about the programme)?
What I have particularly enjoyed about my course is the way it combines theory with practical application. Applied Artificial Intelligence is a very interesting field, and I have enjoyed learning how AI techniques can be used to solve real world problems. I also appreciated the variety of modules, which helped me build a broader understanding of areas such as machine learning, data analysis and intelligent systems. Working on practical tasks and projects made the learning experience much more engaging and helped me strengthen my technical skills.
How have you found the academic/ lecturer support as part of your studies?
The academic support on my course has been very good. The lecturers have been supportive, approachable and always willing to help when needed. They explained complex topics clearly and provided useful guidance on assignments and project work. Their feedback helped me improve my understanding and become more confident in my work. Having that support throughout the course made a big difference to my overall experience.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The facilities have been a stand-out and helpful feature of my experience at Westminster. Since my course is based at the Cavendish Campus, I have had access to an excellent study environment, including well-equipped computer labs, library spaces with both PCs and Macs, and dedicated group study rooms, all of which have been invaluable when working on assignments and preparing for projects. I have also made good use of the library’s online resources and digital materials, which have been especially helpful when doing research and independent study. These facilities have supported both the practical and academic side of my course, and they have made a real difference to my overall learning experience.
Have you used the University Careers and Employability Service?
I found the Careers and Employability Service really helpful. It gave me support with my CV and helped me think more about my future career. As an AI student, I felt it was useful to have that kind of guidance alongside my course.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
Outside of my course, I have taken part in different activities linked to my studies and student life. One of the things I enjoyed was a course related trip to Bletchley Park, which was really interesting because of its connection to the history of computing and Alan Turing. I have also tried to make the most of opportunities at university by joining events, meeting new people and getting involved in networking activities. There are always lots of societies, social events and chances to connect with other students, which has made my experience more enjoyable outside of the classroom.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice to someone considering studying at Westminster would be to make the most of every opportunity available to you. Take full advantage of the academic support, university resources and career services, and try to engage actively with your course. It is also important to connect with classmates and build a network, because you can learn a lot from people with different experiences and backgrounds. If you stay committed and make the most of your time at the university, it can be a very rewarding experience.
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
The best aspect of being a University of Westminster student is being part of a diverse and supportive academic environment. I have enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds and learning alongside students with a wide range of experiences. This has made the experience more enriching and has helped me grow both personally and academically. I also value the balance between academic learning and professional development that the university encourages.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
One thing I did not expect was how much support is available outside of lectures. From academic help to career guidance and student services, there was always somewhere to go when I needed advice. That made a big difference to my overall experience.
