Never limit your interests and always go above and beyond to widen your skillset.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because of its strong reputation for combining academic theory with real-world experience. The course content stood out to me for its practical relevance and industry-focused modules, which aligned perfectly with my career goals. The diverse and inclusive environment was also a big factor, as I wanted to study in a place that embraces different cultures and perspectives. Being in the heart of London, Westminster also offers incredible networking opportunities and easy access to employers, events, and placements that enhance the overall student experience.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I studied BSc Economics, and what I appreciated most about the course was its wide-ranging subject coverage and flexibility. It provided a solid foundation in core economic theory while also allowing me to explore elective modules beyond traditional economics, which meant my learning was never limited to just one perspective. I also enjoyed the practical aspect of the programme, as we had access to industry-standard software like SPSS, EViews, and Minitab, which helped develop my technical and data analysis skills.

One of the highlights of my degree was the opportunity to complete a placement year at IBM. It gave me invaluable insight into the working world, helped me significantly enhance my confidence, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Overall, the course has not only deepened my understanding of economics but also prepared me with the practical skills and experience needed for the next step in my career.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic and lecturer support throughout my studies has been encouraging. Lecturers were always willing to guide and support us, whether that was by providing additional learning materials, clarifying complex topics, or offering general academic advice. They were approachable and available both online and in person, which made it easy to reach out whenever I needed help. I also appreciated the opportunity to give feedback at the end of each semester, as it showed the university genuinely valued our input and was committed to making improvements based on our experiences.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

Yes, the course provided access to specialist software that helped strengthen my technical and analytical skills. The Bloomberg Suite was a valuable resource for exploring real-time financial data, making the learning experience more practical and engaging. I also appreciated the guest lectures and industry talks, which offered real-world insights, as well as the networking events that supported my career development and placement journey.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?

Yes, I have used the University Careers and Employability Service, and it has been incredibly helpful. During my final year, I secured a job as a Talent Bank Associate, where I supported the Employability team. The service offers a wide range of both internal and external job listings, making it easier to explore different opportunities. Additionally, I completed various activities and tasks through the service to enhance my employability skills, which led to me being awarded the Employability Award Silver certification.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

I actively joined and participated in various societies during my time at university, which gave me valuable insights into different cultures and helped me expand my network. Being part of these communities allowed me to meet people from diverse backgrounds, develop my interpersonal skills, and engage in meaningful discussions beyond the classroom. These experiences enriched my university life and complemented my academic learning by fostering a broader global perspective.
