Multimedia Journalism MA (Print and Online) – 2024

It was an immersive experience that allowed me to explore the full spectrum of journalism.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because of its strong emphasis on practical learning. The course stood out for its hands-on approach—featuring regular news days, fieldwork, and on-the-ground reporting tasks. The integration of social media content creation and multimedia storytelling alongside core journalism and media law modules made it a well-rounded and future-facing programme.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

Studying Multimedia Journalism MA with a focus on the Print and Online module, I particularly loved the Feature Writing sessions led by Steve Hill and Benjamin Gilbert. From reading masterfully crafted long-form pieces to being pushed to track down and interview compelling people across London, the experience sharpened both my narrative and reporting skills in a meaningful way.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

Academic support has been excellent. The lecturers were approachable and professional, always willing to guide and challenge us. The course also featured impressive guest speakers from the industry, offering valuable insights into the evolving media landscape and bridging classroom learning with real-world experience.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

Absolutely! While I specialised in Print and Online, I still had the chance to work in the university’s state-of-the-art TV studios and radio/podcast recording booths. The broadcast facilities were industry-level and offered a fantastic opportunity to explore multimedia production.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Make the most of both your course and the city. With teaching spread across different central London campuses—Harrow, Regent Street, and Marylebone—you’ll quickly get to know the city, which opens doors for networking and internships. Explore beyond your modules; the broader experience really matters.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The diversity—both in terms of the student body and faculty backgrounds—creates an enriching learning environment. And personally, I really valued the libraries, especially Harrow’s, which became a quiet retreat during the busiest times.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

Just how much we were able to cover in one year. From news reporting and feature writing to podcasting, video editing, magazine design, and field visits to places like Old Bailey and City Hall—it was a fast-paced, immersive experience that allowed me to explore the full spectrum of journalism in a short time.
