My course blends theory with practical application, preparing students for the realities of today’s job market.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because it offers the perfect mix of academic strength and real-world focus. The Financial Economics course really appealed to me because it blends theory with practical application, preparing students for the realities of today’s job market. I was also drawn to Westminster’s diverse, inclusive community and the opportunity to study in the heart of London, where you’re surrounded by innovation, culture, and career possibilities.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I’ve really enjoyed how the Financial Economics programme balances theory and practical application. The modules are thoughtfully designed to challenge your thinking and develop both analytical and critical skills. I appreciate the opportunity to work on real-world projects and case studies, which make the learning feel relevant and engaging. It’s also been exciting to apply what I’ve learned to internships and projects outside the classroom.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic and lecturer support has been excellent. The lecturers are approachable and genuinely invested in helping students succeed. They create a supportive environment where it feels comfortable to ask questions, seek clarification, or discuss ideas. I’ve also appreciated the feedback on assignments, which has helped me continuously improve and refine my work.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

Yes — the access to the Bloomberg terminals and other financial databases has been a real highlight. These resources allow students to gain hands-on experience with tools used in the finance industry, which really enhances the learning experience. The library and online resources are also excellent, offering a wide range of materials to support both coursework and independent study.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?

Yes, I’ve used the Careers and Employability Service, and it’s been very helpful. I’ve had support with improving my CV, preparing for interviews, and exploring career pathways. The service offers workshops, one-on-one guidance, and access to great opportunities like internships and networking events. It’s given me a lot more confidence about my future career direction.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

Outside my course, I have taken on several activities to broaden my experience and skills. I serve as a course representative, where I help communicate student feedback and work with staff to improve the learning experience. I have also taken part in the leadership and development trip to Scotland, which helped strengthen my teamwork and problem-solving skills, as well as the upcoming sustainability course in Amsterdam and the finance-focused Working Cultures programme in Hong Kong. Additionally, I am involved in external projects such as contributing to the financial strategy at Mediva Marketing. These activities have allowed me to expand my horizons, develop leadership and communication abilities, and gain insights beyond the classroom.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

My advice would be to make the most of all the opportunities available — both inside and outside the classroom. Engage with your lecturers, take part in extracurricular activities, and don’t hesitate to use the support services. Westminster offers so many ways to grow academically, professionally, and personally, and the more you put yourself out there, the more rewarding your experience will be.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The best aspect is the sense of diversity and community. You’re surrounded by people from all over the world, each bringing different perspectives and experiences. This makes for an incredibly enriching learning environment, both academically and socially. Plus, being in London means you’re always close to exciting events, opportunities, and industry connections.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

What surprised me most was how approachable and supportive the lecturers and staff are. Even in a large university setting, they make time to help and guide you, which really enhances the learning experience. I was also pleasantly surprised by the range of international and leadership opportunities on offer — there’s always something new to get involved in if you’re willing to take the initiative.
