Documentary Photography and Photojournalism MA – 2022

The work I created while studying at Westminster was strong enough for me to apply to several photography opportunities. For example, I won the Martin Parr Bursary Award, I exhibited with the National Portrait Gallery via their Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, and I was featured in Photoworks Graduate issue which led to a mentorship scheme.
 

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster as it was one of the only courses in London that taught the course I wanted to study. I also had the option to study it part-time, which was great! It was only after I started studying at Westminster that I realised how prestigious the University is in regard to photographic studies.

How has your experience been studying in London?

I was born and raised in London, so studying here was an obvious choice for me. London is a great city, and it has different opportunities available for everyone.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

What I particularly enjoyed about the documentary and photojournalism course was the ability to choose what I wanted my work to be about. I was able to choose the areas of study I really wanted to dive deep into and additionally, I was able to receive all the support I needed from the academics.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

I found the academic support to be more than adequate. I was able to get the support I needed.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

I was impressed with the University’s library. Having a wealth of photography books and the option to get books delivered from one campus library to another was a lifesaver during the covid restriction period.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

I would tell them to really consider it as it was a great experience. The university lecturers and staff are really helpful, and the facilities are excellent.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The University of Westminster is a great University, and when I tell people that I am a student there, they tend to be impressed.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

As I mentioned before, I only realised how prestigious the University of Westminster is in regard to photographic studies after I had already started studying for my degree. That was certainly a nice surprise.
