Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose this university for several reasons. Its diverse and inclusive community offers a rich cultural experience and the chance to connect with people from different backgrounds, which suits me well. Additionally, I was attracted to its strong academic reputation and its strategic location in the heart of central London.
How has your experience been studying in London?
Studying in London has been both challenging and rewarding. The high academic standards pushed me to develop a better version of myself. I have developed time management skills, independence and self-confidence. Studying Sociology and Criminology in such a diverse and dynamic city broadened my understanding of the world!
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
Studying Sociology and Criminology BA was a true eye-opener. It gave me the right glasses to see the world from a new perspective. The programme encourages curiosity and critical thinking that challenged my way of thinking and deepened my understanding of my field. In class, I had the opportunity to engage in critical discussions. Modules like 'Work-based Learning' not only enhanced my employability skills but also allowed me to practice what I learned.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
The Sociology and Criminology academic team at the University of Westminster is outstanding. They go above and beyond to support students - not just academically, but personally too. Their guidance has helped me find the right path for myself. They may not be life coaches by title, but their support has had that kind of impact on me. Before being such great professionals, they are incredible human beings. I’ll always be grateful to them!
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The university offers excellent facilities, including a well-equipped library, study spaces, computer rooms, and a free gym at the Regents campus!
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service
Yes, I have used the University Careers and Employability Service, and it has been an incredibly valuable experience. Through their support, I was able to enhance my computer skills, which has greatly benefited my academic and professional development. Additionally, I participated in a mentor programme that provided me with real hands-on experience in a field of my interest. This opportunity allowed me to gain practical insights, build connections, and prepare for the work industry.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
Outside of my course, I have actively participated in gym classes such as yoga and Pilates, which have helped me maintain a healthy balance between my studies and well-being. Additionally, I have taken part in several informative trips to museums, as well as city walking tours. These experiences were enjoyable and contributed to my learning by broadening my knowledge.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice to anyone considering studying at Westminster is… Do it! Embrace every opportunity the university offers! The place is diverse, and you will have the opportunity to be taught by academic excellence! This university is where your future starts!
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
The best aspect of being a student at the University of Westminster is the incredible support system. The lecturers are not only experts in their fields but also genuinely caring individuals.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
The most surprising and unexpected aspect of my Westminster experience was the level of support and dedication from the lecturers. I knew I would receive a quality education, but I didn’t expect the teachers to go so far beyond their roles to guide, mentor, and encourage students.
