MA Multimedia Journalism (Print & Online) – 2024
The curriculum prepares you for multiple job roles and restores your faith in print.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
The University of Westminster particularly stood out to me because of its curriculum, faculty and status within the industry as one of the best media schools in London. Fees and living expenses also played a major role in my preference for the University of Westminster. The institution had a well-planned tuition fee structure for international students and multiple campus locations across different zones.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
The curriculum of MA Multimedia Journalism (Print & Online) prepares you for multiple job roles and restores your faith in the print industry. Some of my favourite core modules were 'Digital Magazine Publishing' and 'Feature, Review and Profile Writing'. While lectures and feedback reshaped my writing style and structure, my design thinking was often stimulated by multi-platform outputs. I now firmly believe print won't die as long as people can read!
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
Most of my achievements and milestones at the University of Westminster are attributed to the amazing support system the institution provided me with. My lecturers always gave constructive feedback, shared opportunities for work placements and even openly discussed the ethical use of AI in academic settings.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
The Broadcast Suite has been one of the highlights of my time at the University of Westminster. The space introduced me to industry-standard equipment and gave me ample knowledge to flex when I went on to experience live TV galleries at the BBC.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?
I've attended a one-to-one CV review session with the Careers and Employability Service before, and the feedback from my career consultant boosted my confidence in my own skills and the job market. I also highly recommend the Career Mentoring Programme as part of the Future Ready Mentoring service to every University of Westminster student. I am forever grateful to the team for matching me with a fantastic mentor who opened many doors for me in the industry.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
Take the leap! The University of Westminster will always provide you the right space to thrive academically and personally. The curriculum is well-planned, facilities are constantly evolving, campuses are beautiful, career services are always approachable, the mix of cultures is unparalleled, and lecturers always want what's best for you.
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
The respect that comes with the tag of being a University of Westminster student is the best part of being one. I've attended several networking events when I was at University and people in the industry always seemed to know a couple of Westminster alums who they've always held in high regard. That and free access to the Harrow campus library, of course!
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
The people I've had the honour of meeting. Before coming to the UK, I didn’t have many expectations of making new friends and always thought I'd stay in my own bubble and miss out on social events as a result. However, my university experience gifted me with an amazing support system that has helped me grow into the person I am today.
