My course has been invaluable in preparing me for a professional career in finance.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because of its practical, hands-on approach to education and its engaging course curriculum. The programme emphasised real-world applications, with nearly all coursework centred around solving actual problems faced in the industry. This often involved using essential tools like the Bloomberg Terminal, which I believe is crucial for a successful career in finance. The focus on practical skills and industry-relevant experience made it an ideal choice for me.

How has your experience been studying in London?

London is an incredible city, especially for students, offering a wealth of activities, cultural experiences, and attractions to explore. It also provides numerous career opportunities that are simply not available in other locations, making it an ideal place to study and grow professionally. The campus's location is perfect, situated right in the heart of central London, which makes it easily accessible from almost anywhere in the city. Having previously studied in New York during my undergraduate degree, I find that London shares many similarities with it—its vibrant energy, diverse environment, and dynamic opportunities make it a truly inspiring place to live and learn.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

One of the aspects I particularly enjoyed about the programme was how seamlessly theory and practice were integrated into both the lectures and assignments. Many of the theoretical concepts presented directly relate to real-world finance, which enhanced my understanding of the industry. Additionally, I appreciated the emphasis on practical tools like the Bloomberg Terminal and other applications, which were not just encouraged but explicitly required for coursework. This hands-on approach has been invaluable in preparing me for a professional career in finance.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

I found the academic and lecture support throughout my studies to be great. My tutors were consistently helpful, approachable, and genuinely interested in assisting with any issues or questions I had. Speaking from my personal experience, I would like to especially highlight the outstanding support I received from my supervisor, who was incredibly responsive and dedicated during the process of my dissertation. Their guidance and encouragement made a significant difference in my academic journey, and I truly appreciated the level of support they provided.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

A key standout facility associated with my course is the Financial Market Suites, which are equipped with dual monitors essential for coursework and include access to the Bloomberg Terminal. Additionally, the gym at the Regent Street Campus is another notable feature, offering free access to all university students, making it an excellent resource for maintaining fitness and well-being during my studies.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

Beyond my coursework, I thoroughly enjoyed participating in various sports teams, which offered opportunities to compete against other universities in sports like football, cricket, and many others. Additionally, our course organised trips to notable institutions such as the Bank of England and other financial establishments, providing valuable insights and practical experiences outside the classroom.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

I would recommend thoroughly researching your options by exploring the different courses available and reviewing their curricula. Additionally, take advantage of campus tours offered during open days to get a first-hand feel of the environment, and don’t hesitate to ask plenty of questions to ensure you gather all the information you need to make an informed decision.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

One of the best aspects of being a University of Westminster student is the personalised attention and support from the lecturers, who genuinely take the time to engage with each individual student. Another significant advantage is the diverse student body, comprising individuals from various cultural and professional backgrounds, which creates a dynamic and enriching environment. Additionally, the university offers a more affordable alternative to institutions like LSE, making quality education accessible at a lower cost.
