Economic Policy and Analysis MSc – 2025

The course strikes a strong balance between theory and practice.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

After working with an international NGO in development, I wanted to deepen my understanding of economic policy and sharpen my analytical skills to further my career. While researching where to study, I noticed many University of Westminster alumni thriving in impactful roles—including my senior colleague who completed a master's degree here and went on to a regional leadership position. Seeing the real-world value of a Westminster education gave me the confidence that this was the right place to pursue my next step.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

The course strikes a strong balance between theory and practice, blending core economic frameworks with practical case studies. I’ve really appreciated how globally focused the curriculum is, making it easy to apply our learning across different countries and policy contexts. The teaching staff have been exceptional—many of them bring years of industry experience, and their insights have inspired me throughout my academic journey.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

Returning to academia after working full-time can be daunting, but Westminster’s supportive and student-focused environment made the transition smooth. The university truly listens to student feedback and makes changes that improve the learning experience. Lecturers are approachable, responsive, and available both in person and online, creating an open atmosphere where support is always within reach.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

Absolutely. Access to professional tools like STATA, EViews, and Bloomberg terminals has been a real asset. These platforms allow us to develop key skills in forecasting, data analysis, and financial research. Even better, the university provides remote access so we can continue using these resources off-campus—making it easier to stay engaged and build confidence with the tools professionals use every day.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?

The Careers and Employability Service has been incredibly valuable. I’ve attended a number of their seminars and events, which have helped me connect with professionals from high-profile organisations such as the Government Economic Service, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, and Goldman Sachs. These sessions have broadened my understanding of the career paths available and expanded my network in the sector.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

You’re on the right track. Westminster offers the academic rigour and industry relevance that can genuinely elevate your career. My advice would be to seize every opportunity early—look into programmes like the Talent Bank, apply for internships, and make the most of the global learning experiences available. They will enrich your academic and personal development in more ways than one.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The diversity. Studying here means you’re part of an international community, learning from peers with different perspectives and backgrounds. It makes every classroom discussion dynamic and enlightening. Combined with the practical, well-structured course content, it’s a truly enriching academic experience.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

The location is incredible! I didn’t expect to be studying just minutes away from some of London’s most iconic spots—Regent’s Park, Oxford Street, Madame Tussauds, and even the BBC headquarters. It’s a constant reminder that you’re learning and growing in the heart of a global city.
