Looking back, I can see a clear difference between the person I was when I started and who I am now; more confident, resilient, and ready to take on new opportunities.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose the University of Westminster because, having grown up on the outskirts of London, I had always wanted an authentic London experience, and university felt like the perfect opportunity to embrace that.
Through my research, I discovered that the course is IBMS accredited, which really stood out to me because of the importance of professional recognition in my field.
When I visited during an open day, I took part in a lab taster session, which was engaging and gave me a real insight into the practical side of the course. The atmosphere felt full of energy and possibility.
All of these factors, along with the university’s strong academic reputation and the chance to fully immerse myself in London, made Westminster the ideal choice for my studies.
How has your experience been studying in London?
Studying in London has been one of the best experiences of my life. The energy of the city is incredible, and every day feels like an opportunity to explore something new.
Academically, the resources available are excellent, and learning alongside such a diverse group of students has really enriched my experience. The passion and dedication of the lecturers also motivate me to do my best.
Outside of my studies, there is always something happening, from cultural events to exploring different areas of the city. I have made friends from all walks of life, which has broadened my perspective and helped me grow.
The networking opportunities are another huge advantage. Being in London opens doors that I never imagined, and every experience contributes to both my academic and personal development.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
As a Biomedical Science student, I feel incredibly supported by knowledgeable and dedicated lecturers who invest time and effort into our success. Their passion makes learning engaging and helps deepen my understanding of complex topics.
The course itself is challenging but very rewarding. It encourages critical thinking and allows us to apply theoretical knowledge through hands on lab work and research opportunities.
Being a course and school representative has also enhanced my experience, allowing me to work closely with staff, support other students, and contribute to improving the academic environment.
Overall, the course has helped me develop both academically and personally, and I feel well prepared for the future.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
I have found the academic and lecturer support to be extremely positive. Lecturers are approachable, knowledgeable, and always willing to help clarify concepts or answer questions.
My personal tutor has been a great source of support, consistently responding to my emails and providing guidance whenever I need it.
As a course and school representative, I have also taken part in student voice forums, where I have contributed to discussions on improving accessibility and support. It has been rewarding to see feedback taken seriously and implemented.
Overall, the support has had a very positive impact on my confidence, learning experience, and academic progress.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
There are many standout opportunities and programmes that have enhanced my experience. The Student Ambassador Programme has helped me develop communication, leadership, and public speaking skills while supporting prospective students.
The Global Opportunities support has also been valuable, offering guidance for volunteering abroad and summer study programmes. The Westminster Working Cultures Programme has given students the chance to explore industries both in the UK and internationally while connecting with alumni.
Programmes such as Gene Editors of the Future have provided insight into advanced areas like genetics, while the Cavendish Living Lab Project encourages students to work on real world challenges such as sustainability and environmental issues.
Alongside this, the wide range of societies allows students to explore their interests and build a strong sense of community.

I have used the Zone29 service extensively, and my experience has been very positive. I regularly use their CV review service, and the feedback has helped me present my skills more effectively and build confidence when applying for roles.
The Biomedical Taster Day was a highlight, as it helped me prepare for interviews and gave me insight into potential career paths. The careers team also delivered sessions on interview techniques, including mock interviews, which helped me improve my responses and presentation skills.
The employability workshops have also been very useful, especially those focused on networking and job searching. These experiences played a key role in helping me secure my placement.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
I have taken part in several activities outside of my course that have supported my personal and professional growth.
A memorable experience was visiting The Science Museum in London with the Biomedical Science Society, which helped deepen my understanding of scientific concepts while connecting with other students.
Running the First Aid Society, first as treasurer and then as president, taught me valuable leadership and organisational skills. I also became a certified first aider with St John Ambulance, which gave me practical lifesaving skills.
I have also taken part in the Westminster Working Cultures UK Programme, which helped me build a professional network and gain insight into different industries.
Being a student ambassador and participating in graduation ceremonies was another highlight, as it allowed me to be part of an important moment for students.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice would be to go for it. You will not regret it. Westminster offers a supportive and vibrant environment that encourages both academic and personal growth.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
One of the most surprising aspects has been how much I have grown as a person. When I first arrived, I did not expect how much my confidence, independence, and skills would develop through both academic and extracurricular experiences.
Taking on roles such as student ambassador, running a society, and participating in programmes pushed me outside of my comfort zone and helped me develop in ways I never imagined.
Looking back, the transformation has been unexpected, inspiring, and very rewarding.
