Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management

Studying in London has been enjoyable as there are many people from many areas of the world.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose this university as I was recommended by my uncle who was previously a student and studied building surveying, which motivated me to research the courses the university provided. Also, I really liked the university's location, as a person studying construction, London is a great place to learn about modern-day construction.

How has your experience been studying in London?

It has been enjoyable as there are many people from many areas of the world, and helps you network and make friends with people you may not meet where you are from.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I enjoy the varied aspects of construction as we focus on modern-day construction as well as construction in the past and how we can solve problems that could affect us in the future. I like the fact we assess modern issues and give possible solutions.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

I believe I am getting the best help from my lecturers through emails, announcements, and in class. As a result, I feel supported if I need any help.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

I have joined the Afro-Caribbean Society, which is fun as I get to meet people who relate to me. I attend the recreational basketball fixtures which happen on Thursday, and normally play basketball with students outside of the university facilities.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Pick a subject which interests you and that can benefit from your location being London. I would also advise that the student support system in place is solid and works for students, so if any support is needed, the university will be there. Take advantage of the cultural environment of Westminster to interact with new people and gain new experiences.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

I would say student life and the fact I am responsible for my education, and I take responsibility for the things I need to do.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

I would say the freedom of university as education below of university level is more structured and requires you to have less freedom, whereas this is quite different at university.
