Thanks to the University of Westminster, I now have friends all over the world!
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose the University of Westminster after a friend shared her unique experience there, highlighting the university’s strong support for employability, excellent teaching, and real-world practical opportunities. My time at Westminster has honestly exceeded those expectations—I’ve gained a lot of confidence and valuable experience throughout my master’s. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for their next step or opportunity.
What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
I was already interested in marketing before starting my master’s, but this course has truly solidified my passion. The enthusiasm of the lecturers, the engaging projects with various brands, and the diverse range of modules offered all stood out to me. It has expanded my perspective on what a career in marketing could be. Initially, public speaking terrified me, but over the year, group presentations became a highlight—thanks to the camaraderie, teamwork, and healthy competition, which created an energizing environment that has inspired me to keep pitching and presenting even beyond university!
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
The academic support has been exceptional, with most lecturers bringing years of experience from the marketing and advertising industry, making their teaching both insightful and relevant. They constantly encouraged us to push ourselves and look deeper for answers. lecturers were approachable and always willing to offer extra help with assignments and career guidance, whether through email, Teams, or in person, making us feel supported throughout our studies.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
Our course offered fantastic resources like LinkedIn Learning, Adobe Suite, and access to data platforms like Mintel and Statista, which really enriched our learning experience. We also had marketing subscriptions to keep up with the latest trends. One memorable moment was when we gained exclusive access to a Virtual Reality workshop, giving us a unique perspective on marketing. It’s these kind of opportunities that make the University of Westminster truly special and stand out.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?
I participated in the Westminster Employability Award, a programme designed to help students grow personally and professionally alongside their studies. It motivated me to get involved in various activities through the careers and employability service, including networking events, exclusive workshops, career support meetings, and developing pitching skills. The programme is highly rewarding, and the careers team is really supportive and encouraging. You also have the opportunity to apply for part-time jobs through the University Talent Bank, and the mentoring scheme connects students with career advisors to help navigate industry challenges. Overall, the careers service has been a standout part of my university experience and has better prepared me for entering the job market.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
There are so many extracurricular activities you can get involved in alongside your studies. I was really happy to find a French society, which was a great way to connect with people from my culture. I also took dance classes for fun and stayed active, plus I made good use of the free gym facilities available to all students. It’s a great way to relax and make the most of your time at university.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned from my university experience is to say yes to everything—it's opened doors I never imagined. Make the most of the facilities, meet with lecturers, ask questions, attend events, join societies, and explore London. It might seem like a lot at first, but in the end, you'll realize how much you've grown both personally and professionally.
