BA Business Management (Finance) and WWC Mumbai- 2019

I met incredible people. Those that travelled with me and also the alumni. I grew my professional and personal network and enhanced my employability skills.

Why did you choose to study your course at Westminster?

I chose Westminster as I was looking for a University that would allow me to work part-time alongside my studies. I not only managed to do so, but also secured part-time employment at the University throughout my studies. There are plenty of positions for which students can apply. Additionally, I also wanted to be involved in multiple outside study activities which Westminster has many of.

Which part of the Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) programme had the biggest impact on you and why?

I was the most shocked by the living conditions and their differences between Europe and India. Seeing the quality of life in Mumbai, the division between poor and rich and the lack of a middle class made me appreciate what I have, where I come from and where I live. It has been an incredible experience that put my life into perspective and certainly seeing how others live in another part of the world had the biggest impact on me.

How did the programme support your professional and/or personal development?

I met incredible people. Those that travelled with me and also the alumni. I grew my professional and personal network, enhanced my employability skills and gained an experience that I could (and can continue to) elaborate on during interviews and in conversations.

Was the programme beneficial for giving you an insight in your chosen job market and opportunities following graduation?

Definitely, one of the alumni was in the process of starting his own business in a field that I wanted to get into. I had some incredible conversations with him about the job market, his start-up and progression of India in the technological era. I decided to stay in the EU but he helped me to draw a global picture of my industry.

Do you have any advice for graduating students starting out in their job search?

Sign up to all job boards, review them systematically, apply to anything you like and don't only focus on corporates. Smaller companies have a lot to offer too. Be persistent and take each interview as an opportunity to train yourself. Interviewing is a skill, the more you do it, the better you get at it. Additionally, rejection is totally ok, don't think less of yourself when it happens to you. Instead, try to make the most of it and ask for feedback. If they don't give it to you, move on. There are plenty of opportunities out there. Don't let the one you didn't get demotivate you.
