Architect, self-employed

Master of Architecture RIBA Part II- 2014

What are you doing now?

I am currently self-employed and have just won an international architecture ideas competition. I have decided to explore a new path in the arts realm. I am collaborating with Philips Lighting for a lighting installation that was just launched in Malaysia and also two more pieces to follow. Apart from that, I am also working with some friends on a couple of small-scale architecture projects. I will practice in an architecture firm when I am ready.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster? How did the skills you learnt during your degree help you to shape your career?

I found the Faculty and the facilities most valuable at Westminster, along with the proximity to central London. It has enabled me to think beyond architecture and to express my ideas across various mediums and platforms.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

I am passionate about the arts too and being surrounded by incredible art institutions has inspired me tremendously. The relationship with other architecture schools in London was also pivotal.

What extra-curricular activities did you participate in that enhanced your time at the University?

I was a studio representative during my time at University.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing a similar career?

I would advise anyone to choose a University that is suited to you, so just do your best and make full use of the Faculty.

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

Westminster is a thriving institution. In the Architecture School, there is lots of room for experimentation and the faculty is well connected with the industry, perfect for graduates.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself?

Coming to London was the best decision in my life as it gave me so many opportunities to discover my passion and hone my skills. It taught me to be bold and to constantly think outside of the box. My website is jun-ong.com and I am open to collaborations.
