I particularly enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the course, especially the publishing and print module. We had the opportunity to visit real print houses, where we learned about the full production process and gained valuable insight into how the industry works in practice.
Why did you choose the University of Westminster?
I chose the University of Westminster because its industry-standard facilities and large campus really stood out to me, especially for a London-based university. I was also attracted by the practical learning environment and the opportunity to study in a diverse city with strong industry links.
How has your experience been studying in London?
My experience studying in London has been great. It’s a very diverse and exciting city, with opportunities to explore new places, meet different people, and experience diverse cultures. Studying in London has also helped me become more independent and confident while enjoying everything the city has to offer.
Tell us about your course and what have you particularly enjoyed?
I’ve really enjoyed my course because the programme has been very welcoming and supportive. I particularly enjoyed the hands-on aspect of the course, especially the publishing and print module. We had the opportunity to visit real print houses, where we learned about the full production process and gained valuable insight into how the industry works in practice.
The academic side of the course has also been very insightful, and I now have a much deeper understanding of graphic design and the creative industry.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
All of my lecturers have been great to work with and have guided me throughout every step of my university journey. My lecturers have always supported me with any issues or questions I’ve had and consistently encouraged me to develop a deeper understanding of my work and the subject.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
One of the best things about Westminster is the industry-standard facilities available to students. The standout facilities for me have been the printmaking and 2D studios, where I’ve worked closely with the technicians, who have been incredibly helpful in supporting me in achieving my production goals and experimenting with the best techniques for my projects.
The laser-cutting facilities have also become a second home to me. It’s always amazing to see the machines in action, and having access to that kind of professional equipment has really helped develop both my practical skills and creative confidence.
How has Zone29 - our home of careers and enterprise - helped you with your career journey?
Zone29 has really helped me refine my career plans for both post-university opportunities and short-term work experience. The support available has been very useful in helping me understand the direction I want to take within my career.
They have also helped me improve my CV and interview skills through the workshops and support sessions they regularly host. These sessions have given me more confidence and helped me feel better prepared for applying to opportunities after graduation.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course
Alongside my studies, I have also been part of the university netball team, where I’ve made lifelong friends and become an integral part of the team. I was the team treasurer for three years and served as vice-captain for one year, which helped me develop leadership, organisation, and teamwork skills outside my course.
Being involved in netball has been a great balance alongside my studies and has given me a positive break from university work while still feeling connected to the wider university community.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
My advice to someone considering studying at Westminster would be to work hard and stay motivated but also make sure to enjoy yourself and take breaks when you need them. University is not only about studying, but it’s also about growing as a person and making the most of new experiences.
I would also encourage students to take every opportunity they can within the university, whether that’s joining clubs and societies, attending workshops, using the facilities, or gaining industry experience. Getting involved as much as possible can really help you build confidence, skills, and connections for the future.
What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?
The best aspect of being a student at Westminster is the number of opportunities available within the university. There are so many chances to get involved, whether through societies, sports teams, workshops, career support, industry experiences, or networking events. These opportunities have helped me grow both personally and professionally throughout my university journey.
What’s the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
One of the most surprising aspects of my experience at Westminster was how easily I was able to find a community that suited me, especially through joining the netball team. I was also surprised by how quickly I settled into university life, as it felt far less intimidating than I had expected. Being part of a supportive community really helped me feel comfortable, confident, and connected throughout my time at university.
