Software Engineering BEng – 2019

Every course module gave me a unique experience to develop my skill set. Those skills help me to tackle complex software development phases with a high confidence level.

What are you doing now?

I’m currently working as a Software Engineer - Technology at Iron Mountain, USA (Remote) and working with the Iron Mountain Engineering team. I have 3+ years of experience (Research and Development, Platform Engineering and Software Engineer Enterprise Application Development) in the Software Industry. I do some advising for final-year research students. I also conduct research on Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Medical Informatics.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster?

The final-year Research Project: it gave me a vast amount of skills and a self-understanding to identify my passion for research. I'm still working on research on medical informatics, which I started in my final year. Every course module gave me a unique experience to develop my skill set. Those skills help me to tackle complex software development phases with a high confidence level.

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

Academic support.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

I was a student at IIT Sri Lanka. I did not study in London but the same degree and online resources were shared with us. This helped me to understand international universities' high standards of studying qualifications and experiences.

What advice would you give someone thinking of pursuing a similar career to you?

Focus on one particular area of study. The software industry is huge and it continues to grow every year. Always keep learning. Communication is key. Make each job interview a learning opportunity.
