Great industry experience and knowledge from all of the University lecturers gave a real insight into the construction industry. This gave me a really good grounding when starting out on my construction career.

What are you doing now?

I am currently working as a Design and Planning Coordinator for a small company working on bespoke, exclusive developments.

What did you find most valuable about your course at Westminster? How did the skills you learnt during your degree help you to shape your career?

Great industry experience and knowledge from all of the University lecturers gave a real insight into the construction industry. This gave me a really good grounding when starting out on my construction career.

What was the best thing about being a student in London?

The best thing about being a student in London was the availability of great construction projects and innovative architecture to explore throughout my degree.

What extra-curricular activities did you participate in that enhanced your time at the University?

I volunteered for the police as a Special Constable which gave me a great variety of experiences and a change from University life once a week. I also mentored with the SU allowing me to meet new people and pass on some of my experiences to others.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of pursuing a similar career?

I would say that the construction industry isn’t the dirty manual labour industry that it has a reputation for! It is a very fast-paced, exciting industry that is always developing with brilliant management opportunities and great career progression.

Why would you recommend Westminster as a place to study?

The Marylebone campus at the University of Westminster is a great place to study with excellent resources and a location which is perfectly suited to both University life and for studying construction and architecture related degrees. The experience and knowledge of the teaching staff is great and they were always happy to help with anything in or out of the University.

Is there anything else you would like to tell us about yourself that may be valuable/interesting to our prospective students or alumni?

I think that many are cautious of pursuing a career in construction from university as industry experience is so key. Westminster is well respected in the industry and gives an excellent grounding for graduate roles and various fast-track management schemes that are available.
