University of Westminster offers learning and inspiration beyond the classroom.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because I was drawn to its vibrant facilities and inspiring study spaces. The diverse range of optional modules, spanning across disciplines, offered the flexibility that I was looking for in a creative degree. I was also excited by the hands-on workshops and opportunities for external trips to museums and exhibitions, which offered a real-world dimension to my learning.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?

I’ve really enjoyed the freedom to explore my artistic and creative identity. Modules like scriptwriting, digital arts, and visual effects encouraged me to explore new forms of expression that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried. In the process, I discovered my passion for storytelling in various forms. Working in groups also taught me valuable leadership skills and helped shape me into a hardworking and reliable contributor.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The tutors are passionate and constructive, and many are active professionals in the creative industry, which means their guidance is practical. As a dyslexic student, I also benefited from one-to-one study support and reasonable adjustments, which have played a significant role in my academic success. From technicians to project specialists, I’ve always felt supported in bringing my creative ideas to life without having to compromise due to practical challenges.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The University offers outstanding creative facilities that encourage cross-disciplinary exploration. The animation studios, 3D workshops, and illustration spaces are open to students from different courses, which helps to foster a collaborative and experimental environment. I spent a significant amount of time in the animation studios while working on modules such as Visual Effects, where I explored digital techniques and motion design. Whilst the illustration studios allowed me to engage in more traditional, hands-on art practices, providing me with a well-rounded creative experience.

Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service?

I’ve used the University’s Careers and Employability Service for support with CV building, job searching, and interview preparation. The advice I received from the team helped me think more clearly about my postgraduate options and long-term career goals.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

One of the most memorable moments was going on an international cultural exchange trip to Madrid, Spain. That experience solidified my leadership skills as I had the opportunity to support the organisers by acting as an informal project lead. It gave me a taste of project management skills and added a meaningful layer to my university experience.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Say yes to opportunities, even the ones that feel unfamiliar or challenging. Try new mediums, collaborate with people outside your course, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. The tutors here have real industry experience and are genuinely open to helping you develop your voice. The more you put yourself out there, the more you’ll gain, not just academically, but personally and creatively too.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

Being part of a diverse and creative community. You’re surrounded by people from all walks of life, each bringing their own culture, perspective, and creativity. It’s incredibly inspiring! There’s also a real sense of freedom to explore your identity as an artist and grow into your own style, with the support and space to do so.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

What surprised me most was how much I’ve grown by simply engaging with what’s around me. I didn’t expect to become a collector during my time here, but after numerous trips to exhibitions and museums, I began buying small memorabilia along the way. Now I have a visual story of my university journey, a tangible reflection of the inspiration I’ve gathered over the past three years. It’s a creative habit which I’ll carry with me.
