Westminster was exactly the environment I was looking for, both academically and personally.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose the University of Westminster because of the great experience I had when attending an Open Day. The atmosphere felt very different from other universities I had visited — it was welcoming, inclusive, and had a real sense of community. I also had existing ties with the university’s Volleyball team through training sessions, and everyone there was incredibly kind and supportive. Altogether, it felt like Westminster was exactly the environment I was looking for, both academically and personally.

How has your experience been studying in London?

At Westminster, I enjoy the balance between lectures and seminars, which encourages both independent learning and collaboration. Working in groups has helped me develop teamwork and communication skills. I’ve also had the privilege of serving as a student representative, which has been a rewarding opportunity to contribute to my community, build connections, and grow personally.

Tell us about your course (what have you particularly enjoyed about the programme)?

One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about my course is the teaching quality. The seminars, in particular, have been a highlight — they allow for smaller, more interactive group discussions that help you engage with the material on a deeper level. It’s also been a great way to connect with fellow students, exchange ideas, and gain different perspectives, which really enriches the learning experience.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The academic support at Westminster has been excellent. Whenever I’ve faced challenges with assignments or coursework, I’ve always felt comfortable reaching out to my tutors for guidance. I’d like to give special thanks to my course tutor, Stuart Peck, whose teaching style and genuine passion for helping students succeed have been truly inspiring. His support has made a real difference in my learning experience.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

There are plenty of impressive facilities across the University’s campuses, but one of my personal favourites is the gym at the Regent Campus. It’s newly refurbished, well-equipped with weights, elliptical machines, and more — and it’s completely free for students, which is a huge bonus when managing a student budget. I also make great use of the libraries, which are filled with useful books, journals, and digital resources that make studying and research much easier and more enjoyable.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course

Outside of my studies, I’ve been actively involved with the UWSU Volleyball Team. One memorable experience was travelling to Portsmouth to compete in the BUCS Championships as part of a mixed-gender team. We train weekly with a professional coach, and it’s been a great way to stay active, develop teamwork skills, and connect with people from different courses and backgrounds. Whether you’re playing competitively or just for fun, it’s a great community to be part of.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

My advice would be to get involved as much as possible. Go to the Freshers’ Fair, explore the different societies and clubs, and take advantage of the many support services available to students. Getting involved not only helps you make friends but also allows you to build confidence and make the most out of your university experience.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The best aspect of being a Westminster student is the unique and supportive relationship between lecturers and students. Unlike at college or sixth form, lecturers here are approachable, understanding, and genuinely invested in your success. You never feel pressured or afraid to ask questions — it’s an encouraging environment where you’re treated as an equal and supported to reach your full potential.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

The most surprising aspect of my experience at Westminster has been how much joy and happiness university life has brought me. I didn’t expect to feel so connected — not just to my course, but to the community as a whole. It’s been an incredibly positive and fulfilling journey.
