Software Engineering with Electronics BEng – 2026

My course, Software Engineering with Electronics BEng, is a challenging, yet fun and rewarding course. I enjoy working with my course mates to design and build circuits, and all my academic tutors have been extremely kind and helpful throughout.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

The University of Westminster immediately stood out to me because of its well-equipped campus and online facilities, its central London location, and its vibrant social scene with so many societies to choose from. The lecturers are truly passionate about their students’ progress, both academically and personally. I knew that studying here would mean feeling supported while also building great memories along the way. Looking back, I’m glad I made this choice, Westminster has exceeded my expectations, and I can’t wait to see what my third year brings.

How has your experience been studying in London?

Studying in London has been an amazing and rewarding experience. It’s incredible to be at the centre of everything, with access to museums, highly rated restaurants, and countless places to explore. Despite how busy the city can be, there are still plenty of quiet spaces where I can study or unwind. Academically, being in London provides access to a wealth of resources, internships, and technical events. The city’s diversity has also allowed me to meet people from all over the world, which has enriched my university experience tremendously.

How have you found the academic/ lecturer support as part of your studies?

The academic support has been one of the best parts of my experience. My tutors are knowledgeable, approachable, and are genuinely dedicated to seeing us succeed. They are always willing to give guidance and support whether it's through feedback, office hours, or emails. Knowing that I can ask questions and receive useful and thoughtful answers has really encouraged me to grow in my studies.

Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?

The electrical hardware labs really stand out to me. They are always well equipped with everything we need to learn and gain hand on experience, and if anyone needs anything, the technician in charge is always kind and ready to help. The hardware labs have made a huge difference in helping me understand my course material even more, and being able to build and test things in a real lab environment has been both exhilarating and helpful.

Have you used the University Careers and Employability Service? If yes tell us about your experience

Yes, the Careers and Employability Service has been very helpful. You can book meetings with career consultants to get advice on anything from CVs to interview preparation. They also host online sessions open to all students, which provide useful career insights and opportunities to ask questions. In addition, their online platform, lists job opportunities, networking events, volunteering roles, placements, and more. It’s easy to use, and I’ve relied on it multiple times throughout my degree.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course (e.g. course related trips, study abroad, sports clubs, societies and any competitions)?

As part of the University of Westminster's Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) student branch, we helped organise and attended the annual IEEE Christmas lecture, which was held at the University of Westminster's Regent Street campus. It was lovely getting to help in such an important event as well as interacting with many professionals. It was a valuable and informative networking event too. Some of the student branch members, including myself, also volunteered at IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems 2025, where we got to spend 4 days experiencing and witnessing various technologies.  It was incredible to see innovative technologies from around the world and speak directly with the creators. I learned so much while having a great time.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Make sure to use all the resources available to you, and don't be shy to speak to your tutors or support services, they have always been a great help during my studies! And if you're looking to make new friends, I recommend joining a society, the university has various societies that could suit your interests. Finally, make sure to keep on top of your studies.

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The sense of community and support. You will always find yourself surrounded by like-minded people who are passionate and driven, whether it's classmates, staff or lecturers. You will find yourself motivated to do your very best in this University. There are also so many opportunities to get involved, try new things and grow personally and academically.

What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?

At first, I was a little intimidated by the idea of speaking to my tutors for help, but I was surprised at how supportive and approachable they are. I found myself in a very encouraging environment where it is easy to ask questions and get help.
