The University of Westminster has opened my eyes to so many possibilities and different career paths that I can take.
The annual University of Westminster Degree Shows highlight a range of projects, reflecting the varied talent across the Westminster School of Arts and the School of Media and Communication. In an interview, Beth Theobald, Photography BA Honours alumna, spoke about the inspiration for her final year project, her future plans and aspirations, and how Westminster helped her to expand her career horizons.
What inspired you to create your final project?
The current climate crisis and the need for long-term change were the key drivers behind my project. After investigating the environmental impact of analogue photography for my dissertation, I decided to explore the possibilities of a more feasible way to create a photographic project.
What were you most excited about for the degree show?
I couldn’t wait to see everyone’s work on the University walls and celebrate together in person - after various lockdowns! We all worked extremely hard, and the degree shows allowed us to pause for a moment and celebrate our achievements.
What have you been up to since graduation?
I really enjoyed studying for my degree but I’m now enjoying a short break. I will then start applying for photography or studio assistant positions while working as a freelancer.
What are some of your career aspirations?
My long-term career goals are still uncertain. The University of Westminster has opened my eyes to so many possibilities and different career paths that I can take. I’d like to work in my field, but I’m also interested in studying for a Master’s degree.
