Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

Being awarded a scholarship from Westminster to study my degree was an influential factor in choosing this university, as it acknowledged and valued my high achievements at A-Levels. The annual exhibitions showcasing student work, organised by the university, also contributed to my decision. However, the primary reason was the course leader; the assurance of being taught by a trustworthy tutor solidified my choice.

How has your experience been studying in London?

It's been exciting to have the opportunity to meet new people and make lifelong connections. Although my first year was challenging with remote studying due to the COVID pandemic, I feel that it was a nice opportunity for me to work on myself and stay close to the ones I trusted most. The second and third years were incredibly intense, but, as a result, truly rewarding. Balancing my personal life, finances, and studying wasn't easy, but I feel that I've had the true experience of living, working, and studying in London throughout my university studies. Having access to work experience opportunities facilitated by my university studies, participation in mobility programs that enhanced my graduate attributes, and engagement in events for networking and socialising have all played pivotal roles in my personal and professional development.

Tell us about your course and what have you particularly enjoyed?

The course delivered an eye-opening experience, incorporating independent and interdisciplinary group work, and providing valuable opportunities to gain work experience along the way. I am truly grateful to have completed this course at the University of Westminster. Socialising with my classmates, attending various social and work events, and, above all, cherishing the resilience we've demonstrated as a cohort amidst numerous challenges.

How have you found academic support as part of your studies?

The support throughout the course has been outstanding. Most lecturers have provided an excellent learning experience, incorporating both practical and independent learning practices. The skills I have acquired have proven invaluable in my work experience and career development. Lecturers have delivered sessions that expanded our perspectives on the architecture and construction industry to an international level. They emphasised the importance of decolonising our studies, encouraging in-depth exploration within the timeframes allotted for each topic.

References to current affairs, real-life examples, and case study coursework have further enriched our understanding of the subjects, making the learning experience truly enjoyable.

Have you used the University Careers and Employability Service? If yes tell us about your experience

My experience with the service was straightforward and efficient, particularly when recording information of my previous work experiences, such as the Architecture Pathway for Professional Practice. Additionally, I have found the service to be valuable in discovering new job opportunities post-graduation, serving as a facilitator in my research for relevant positions in the architecture and construction fields.

Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course.

During my first year, we went on a course trip to Rochester, Kent for an architectural walk and sketch of the town. It was also a creative icebreaker, where I enjoyed being able to socialise with my classmates.
Towards the end of my second year, I had the privilege of participating in the Westminster Working Cultures (WWC) International Programme.  I visited Toronto and gained insights into Canadian working cultures, visiting organisations and hearing from successful alumni speakers. We were also given the opportunity to explore the cultural life as well!

After completing my third-year studies, I was fortunate to take part in the WWC UK Programme. This time I visited Belfast, gaining insights into both London and Belfast's working cultures.

What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

My advice would be to work hard, embrace every opportunity that comes your way, stay persistent and resilient in the face of challenges, and always conduct thorough research to stay prepared for anything that may come your way. But, above all, remember to have fun!

What's the best aspect of being a University of Westminster student?

The best aspect is the exposure to various cultures through interactions with numerous international students.

Thank you, Westminster, for helping me become the best version of myself!
