MSc Marketing Management

A highlight of my time at Westminster was the international network I built. London itself was the perfect backdrop, full of opportunities for networking, inspiration, and enjoyment.

Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

I chose Westminster because the course stood out for its practical focus and alignment with current industry needs. The curriculum offered a strong mix of strategic thinking and hands-on learning, and the university’s location in central London meant I could be close to leading marketing agencies and brands – which was important to me as an aspiring marketing professional.

I am currently the Marketing Lead for an e-commerce company based here in London and have been with them since April 2023. I started off part-time with them, half the year while I was writing my dissertation.

What I appreciated most was how closely the course was connected to the real world. The teaching was grounded in current industry practices, and many lecturers brought real life marketing experience into the classroom. Beyond the academic content, the University offered a wide range of additional services that truly enriched my learning. I regularly attended workshops and talks featuring Westminster alumni, who shared their journeys into major companies. Hearing how they broke into the industry made the career path feel both tangible and achievable.

One of the most valuable resources was the mentoring I received, which paired me with experienced marketing professionals. Their advice was practical, relevant, and personalised. They helped me position myself in the job market and tailor my CV for specific marketing roles. These insights, although seemingly simple, were incredibly impactful and made a significant difference in how I approached job applications. All of these elements, including the course, the events, and the mentoring, came together to create a holistic experience that truly prepared me for a career in marketing.

From professional meetups and museum visits to lively nights out and quiet coffees in the city's hidden corners, it was an unforgettable experience that beautifully balanced both study and life.

How have your studies helped your career?

The MSc gave me both the strategic foundation and the practical tools I needed to grow in my marketing career. I learned how to build integrated campaigns, use consumer insights effectively, and apply marketing theory to real business challenges. The group work and presentations also sharpened my communication and teamwork skills, which are essential in the workplace. I left the course feeling confident, capable, and well-prepared to take on a marketing role in a competitive industry. What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?

Make the most of everything on offer, not just the academic side. Join marketing societies, attend networking events, and take advantage of the careers service early. Build strong relationships with your lecturers and classmates. Collaboration is key, and these connections often develop into lasting professional networks.

Do not hesitate to stay in touch with your professors outside of class. At Westminster, I found them to be approachable, generous with their time, and genuinely invested in students’ success. Whether I needed advice about life in London or guidance on the next steps in my career, their support was always available.

Finally, do not underestimate the value of living in London. There is so much to explore and experience, both personally and professionally.
