Why did you choose the University of Westminster?

The university offers fantastic industry links, practical learning opportunities, and access to international experiences, which I knew would enable me to grow as both a student and a future architect. The central London location was also a major factor, providing access to some of the most inspiring architecture in the world.

What have you particularly enjoyed about your course?
The Architecture BA at Westminster offers a well-balanced mix of creativity and technical expertise. I’ve especially enjoyed the hands-on learning approach, from site visits to real-world design challenges. The passionate teaching staff, with expertise from various architectural disciplines, bring fresh perspectives to each project, making the learning process truly engaging. Westminster has not only challenged me creatively but has also equipped me with the technical and critical thinking skills essential for my future career.
How have you found academic support as part of your studies?
Effective academic support is crucial in shaping the university experience and at Westminster, the support from tutors and lecturers has been exceptional. Whether through studio sessions, one-on-one tutorials, or informal conversations, the academic staff ensure that students feel supported. They provide thoughtful, constructive feedback that challenges us to elevate our work and explore diverse architectural approaches. Their extensive industry experience also offers valuable insights into real-world architectural practice, bridging the gap between academia and professional life.
Are there any stand-out facilities associated with your course?
'The architecture studios provide an excellent space for collaboration and idea-sharing, fostering a creative and supportive environment. The fabrication lab is a stand-out facility, equipped with cutting-edge laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC machines, which have been invaluable for producing detailed models. Additionally, the extensive architecture library collection, packed with books, journals, and digital archives, serves as an invaluable resource for research and inspiration. These facilities create an environment where innovation thrives, giving students the tools and space to push their creative boundaries.
Tell us about your experience of using the University Careers and Employability Service
I have explored the University Careers and Employability Service, and it’s been very useful in providing guidance on CV writing, portfolio development, and job applications. The service offers insightful workshops and career fairs, which have been great for networking with industry professionals.
Tell us about any activities that you have undertaken outside of your course.
I have taken part in the Westminster Working Cultures trip to Cairo where I connected with industry professionals, alumni, and fellow students in an international setting, gaining valuable insights and expanding my professional network. As a Westminster Working Cultures Ambassador, I also had the opportunity to share my experience at Regent Street Cinema, helping to inspire other students. My role as a University Ambassador has allowed me to support prospective students and proudly represent the university. Additionally, winning the ‘Contrasts’ Architecture Photography Competition as well as the Foster + Partners Joint Prize for Technical Innovation have also been major highlights of my time at Westminster.
What would your advice be to someone considering studying at Westminster?
Take every opportunity available! Westminster offers a wide range of experiences beyond the lecture room that can enhance your learning and professional growth. Get involved in competitions, attend networking events, and make the most of what the city has to offer. Also, don’t hesitate to seek support from your lecturers, they want to help you succeed!

The best aspect is the sense of community and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The university fosters an environment where students from diverse backgrounds come together, making collaboration exciting and inspiring. The central London location is another great advantage, providing access to exhibitions, architectural landmarks, and networking opportunities.
What was the most surprising or unexpected aspect of your Westminster experience?
One of the most unexpected aspects of my Westminster experience has been the sheer number of opportunities available beyond the classroom. From industry talks and exhibitions to hands-on workshops and site visits, there’s always something happening that enriches the learning experience. I was also surprised by how much freedom we must explore our own design interests while still receiving strong guidance from tutors. The balance between independence and support has really helped me grow both creatively and professionally.
