About the event

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Westminster is proud to present our series of taster lectures for 2023.

These mini-lectures, designed and presented by senior academics in each subject field, provide a taster of what it’s like to study a subject area at university. This is a fantastic opportunity for students who want to explore their favourite subjects at a higher level and identify if they would like to pursue it at university.

In this session, we'll explore how online gambling using websites and apps have significantly expanded since the Gambling Act of 2005 that lessened previous controls. There are now serious concerns that many young people are becoming addicted to different forms of gambling after being introduced to betting via Loot Boxes within Video Games. A key issue is whether we have a public health crisis looming and how the 2005 Act might be reformed to better protect gamblers from serious harm.

This event is free to attend and is open to all students currently studying a Level 3 qualification. Parents and carers are also welcome to attend.
