At the heart of our research culture are the people in the university and the networks who are involved in our research endeavours. Our research is shaped by their insights, expertise and leadership. We celebrate their rigorous, creative, innovative and impactful work.
‘Being Westminster 2022-29’ commits to being ‘a place where discoveries are made, barriers are broken, diversity is celebrated and where everyone is welcome’. We are dedicated to fostering excellent research in a tolerant and inclusive environment, with equity, sustainability, and integrity at its core. We are building on firm foundations, working towards a reality where all members of our diverse community who have a desire to participate in research are enabled to do so in their different ways. We will ensure that the research culture, research topics, researchers, outputs and impact consider diversity and inclusion as the norm.
We prioritise the development of researchers, as individuals and foster connections with other researchers/institutions globally. We are focussed on ensuring all those involved in research have the skills needed, as well as the insights required, to enable career progression within and beyond academia. Our aim is that all members of our research community thrive, that they have a sense of purpose and are appropriately valued. We are committed to providing the time needed for high quality, reproducible, ethical research.
Our bold assertion that ‘research is for everyone’ emphasises our commitment to inclusive research and knowledge exchange, we value the contribution of our students, academic and professional service colleagues and communities. We are committed to supporting and enabling all colleagues that contribute to our research. Our doctoral researcher community is pivotal in driving current and future research. We have pioneered methodologies for co-creation and strive to include those who have traditionally been under-represented in research. Our multidisciplinary local, national and global research empowers us to tackle the most pressing societal and global challenges.
We continue to ensure that our researchers are afforded the freedom to pursue impactful research and knowledge exchange on topics important to them, centring this around our values as a responsible, compassionate and progressive university.
