Area studies, broadly defined, includes the study of all regions of the world and the communities which are associated with or which inhabit them.

At the University of Westminster we have a dynamic and vibrant Contemporary China Centre – an interdisciplinary hub for China-related research and related activities within and outside the University. The Centre builds on our long-term commitment to Chinese studies and engagement with China, and on the University’s contribution to world-leading research on China acknowledged in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.

The Centre’s main purpose is to support research, activities and networks on China in comparative and global perspectives. This takes place within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, other departments of the University, and also with UK and international universities.
