World in Westminster Café is a series of events designed for international students, academics and the wider University of Westminster community. This LGBTQ+ History Month celebration was led by Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dibyesh Anand and an organising team led by interim Head of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Dr Thomas Moore and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Officer Rajat Shah. Attendees were encouraged to take part in creative craft activities, karaoke and enjoy pizza. It was a joyful evening well attended by students and colleagues.

The event served as a reminder of progress made towards equality whilst acknowledging the ongoing challenges and importance of collective action and inclusive togetherness. Through community-building and advocacy, participants left inspired and energised to continue championing queer identities and joy.

Professor Dibyesh Anand said: “While celebrating festivals and events, we are mindful that the world is still one marked by heteronormativity. The event marked both defiance in the face of heterosexism and celebration of our presence. Personally, it was special because of my own queer identity.”

Rajat Shah said: “Being surrounded by students and colleagues who can truly be themselves and share in joy was an absolute delight. Our University is wonderfully diverse, and tonight's celebration of belonging was truly special”.

Dr Tom Moore said: “This celebration of queer joy allowed us to showcase our Westminster values of equality, diversity, and inclusion in real terms. These events are empowering for our LGBTQ+ students and, as a queer university leader, I am conscious of the need to work intersectionally and in partnership with our LGBTQ+ allies to build a truly inclusive university community.”
